order and rm()
Hello all. I have two small questions in one post, for the sake of brevity.
1. I have some objects that I want to delete. I have the line:
rm (c (channelheader, paste ("channel", 1:3, sep="")))
I have tried a few variations, including list=, but cannot figure it out. In
SAS, I can use a ':' as a wildcard. Is there any equivalent in R?
2. Is there any possible was to

LME-glmmPQL formulation
...I guess my question is how to separate the two
random effects so that there is a estimate for day and for
transect/site.
I would be happy to provide the data if anyone needs/wants IT.
Cheers

lme4 print and summary errror
Hi all - (this is posted to r-help and R-SIG-MAC)
OSX 10.3.7, R 2.0.1, lme4/Matrix/latticeExtra latest, fresh install of
R. MASS loaded (or not).
I am getting an error message for the print() and summary() commands
with all lme models I try and run in lme4 (GLMM's work fine). Using
the example from the lme help, summary and print produce the following
errors, despite the model being

I am trying to deal with the output of apply(). As indicated, when
each call to 'FUN' returns a vector of length 'n', then 'apply'
returns an array of dimension 'c(n, dim(X)[MARGIN])'. However, I would
like this to be a list in the same format as is produced when 'FUN'

AW: Improving R Editing: New JEdit Edit Mode for R

I have never tried out WinEdit but after reading your message I took a quick glance at their homepage. It would not be useful for JEdit to
implement the provided interaction with R-GUI since JEdit has to

Omnibus main effects in summary.lme?
Hello,
I've been running some HLMs using the lme function quite happily; it
does what I want and I'm pretty sure I understand it.
The issue is that I'm currently trying to estimate a model with a
14-level "nusiance" factor as an independent variable...which makes the
output quite ugly. All I'm really interested in is the question of whether
these factor as a whole

Rscript on OSX
Hi,
I directed somebody to install R (2.6.1) on his OSX computer,
following instructions from http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx.
She can run R from the console.
But plot(1:10) doesn't produce any output or open a window (as I am
used to from linux).
More importantly:
Rscript is not in the path (minor problem ln -s is hopefully doable). I tried
to put a hardcoded path to Rscript into the

error in Fields TPS function
Hello, I was wondering whether anyone out there knows of the solution to a
problem that I'm having with the Fields package. I am getting the error
message when I try and run the fields function tps (thin plate
splines). Namely, for two different sets of variables, I get:
> bout <- Tps( bvolcap, bdsm)
Error in svd(tempM) : error 159 in dsvdc
> wout <- Tps( wvolcap, wdsm)

Improving R Editing: New JEdit Edit Mode for R
Hi all,
I have created a new edit mode file for the editor JEdit (http://www.jedit.org) based on the file from Zed Shaw. The difference between
his and my file is that mine can be used as a spell checker. It does not highlight all functions but provides syntax highlighting for the base
package (keyword types 1 and 2) and 26 additional packages (boot, class, cluster, ctest, eda, foreign, grid,

R "sumo" package suggestion
r-help:
I have an R package suggestion. After spending
several hours the other day installing about a dozen
packages, I had an idea. In xemacs, there is a
"sumo" package which allows me to install a large
bundle of xemacs packages at one time (about a 120
modes including ESS). I think R should have a
similar bundle. It would be so much easier than
hunting/downloading/installing.

GLMM and crossed effects
Hi again. Perhaps a simple question this time....
I am analysing data with a dependent variable of insect counts, a fixed
effect of site and two random effects, day, which is the same set of 10
days for each site, and then transect, which is nested within site (5
each).
I am trying to fit the cross classified model using GLMM in lme4. I
have, for potential use, created a second coding
