dovecot and unison
...mail clients on the machine. The point is to have a common store I can use with any client; plus, I prefer dovecot's Mailbox storage to Thunderbird's mboxes.) Now I'd like if possible, to replicate this setup on my laptop and keep both in sync with unison (http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/), which I am already using to sync much of my home dir about once a day. I found at least one positive message regarding this topic (http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-April/048092.html), but I feel I could use some more advice. Namely, which of the ancillary files should I be syncin...

mirroring in both directions with rsync
When operating in daemon mode, will rsync check to see which file is newer and decide which direction to transfer based on that? Example, We have 2 terminal servers, A and B. I want users to be able to work on either server and have their home directories on both stay in sync. If a user logs into server A and changes files, the server would know to transfer the file from A to B. If they log

unison for windows
...incremental. If you please provide me the command for that by using rsync? } Somebody gave me his precious advice for getting the objective, the person told me to use "unison" that also use rsync protocol. This time I got the source code for unison by following http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/download.html link. There are two exe that are not executing because it needs libgtk-win32-2.0-0.dll. I am understanding that I need to build this source code that I got for unison. Now my problem is I am not able to build this source code. Somebody please help me about this. Please guide m...

Soft link trouble with rsync on SGI
Rsync v: 3.0.1 OS: IRIX 6.5.28f HW Plat: SGI 2400 Disclaimer: I am running rsync 3.0.1. It's difficult and costly for us to get new versions put on our system, so I'm hoping you will all help me out anyways. If the solution is indeed suspected in a later version of rsync, then we will go through the pain to get it installed.

Synchronizing multiple samba servers
Hi. I have two servers located in two different time zones. I want to know if there is a way to keep the shares synchronized. Right now what i thought is to run rsync from Server A to Server B . However the issue is say Server B has a new version of the file in server A and that should not be overwritten but should be copied back to server A. How to go about this? Regards Janantha

using rsync to sync desktop /home/user of to laptop /home/user
...p's /home; > > mv geo geo.org > mv geo.new geo > > what files and directories in 'org' directory need to be copied > to the 'new' directory so that i will maintain screen setup in > laptop? > Hi, I'm using unison (http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/) to do this. It can sync in both ways if files are changed on both sides between syncs. And, IMHO it's better to filter out the directories that contain configuration for the systems, or better, sync only the documents and other pertinent files. Att., Antonio. -- Ant...

double-side synchronisation
Help me Tell it is possible to make double-side synchronisation of two servers? So that it passed only on time. For example at an identical set of files on two servers any file on the first to change, i.e. for it time modify will exchange. It means becomes newer and it is necessary to transfer it to other server. And on the contrary, if modification time for any file of the second server it to

Treat files that were modified locally and remote
Hi - is there a clever way to identify files that have been change on the local _and_ the remote location? Without such a check it may happen, that changes are lost without even noticing. One way to identify such files would be to do a dry-run upsync, then a dry-run downsync, find files that would have been sync'ed in both dry- runs, and then prompt the user for some action. Is

Feature request...
Hi, I dont run rsync cron jobs to maintain big archives, I use the system to keep my work and home computer sync-ed. I would like a '-i, --interactive' option to use with --delete, so I can decide wich deletes to up date and which were potential mistakes. For example, my regular backup of my work files (at work) was needed as we lost some data - However this backup didn't delete

Using rsync to mirror FTP servers
Hi, I have two different FTP servers that I'd like to always have the same content. The problem is that there isn't one "primary" server that can push or pull the content from other server -- they both always have to have the same content and files can be added or deleted from either. Is there a way to use rsync to determine whether a file on one server should be added to the

[Bug 1471] New: Mention of patent issues in rsync docs
.... I am not suggesting that the rsync team make any statements of warranty concerning possible infringment, but a summary of the issues and why there probably isn't a problem might be helpful. two way synchronization with rsync?
I have two offices in one city; employees work in both of them (once in office A, the next or an hour later in office B etc.). They would like to have the same profile (i.e., if they log off in office A, they would like to have their documents, Desktop, emails etc. in the profile in the office B when they arrive there an hour later). Is it possible with rsync to construct such a "two way
