linking .lib and/or .dll files
Hi,
Linking C++ dynamic libraries has become the bane of my R life. I have a
piece of C++ code that I would like to make into a .dll (to call into R).
However, this piece of C++ code needs to be linked with a .dll or .lib -
which I have been created in Visual C++. Is it possible to link this for use
in R? If so, how do I go about doing this is MINGW?
I am running R1.9.0 on WinXP.

Winpopup/RealPopup
Hi all,
I have network with few win 95/xp machines and suse 9.3 prof server. On
every win client is installed RealPopup (RealPopup homepage:
www.realpopup.it).
I can send popup message from my xp computer to win 95, and I can get reply
on new message addressed from win 95 computer, so looks like popup
communication works well.
If I use:

Errno::EBADF: Bad file descriptor - connect
Today this error is the bane of my existence.
It is weird. My app works fine when I am running it through Mongrel,
but as soon as I try to run a unit test, the test explodes with this
error.
Any ideas?

Blockiness
I tried out Theora to see what the future holds, and see some pros and cons.
As a great plus, I have noticed that, even at the lowest quality (ie. "-v 0"),
the detail, and overally quality is clearly better than anything else available.
On the negative side, at qualities comparable to MPEG4, I've notcied a great
deal of blockiness. It's not as bad as blockiness from other

converting an ASCII file to a matrix
Dear R-WinEdit users,
I got a simple question, but somehow I cannot find the answer, although
I have
tried a lot!
I got an ASCII-file and I want to import it into R, so that every
character is defined by [i;j].
The rows are not of the same length.
the file looks like the following shortened abstract example:
name: xxxxx xxxx
age: 9.9.99
record number: 999
title: xxxxx xxxx xxx
keywords: xxx xx

user comments ?
you know what would be really awesome...
if we could somehow work out a means for users to leave comments on the
wiki pages. That would really rock!

wierdness with mailboxes
Mail has always been the bane of my sys-admin life. I've been looking
long and hard for a small, C-based, simple IMAP server that worked well
with maildirs *and* mboxes and nothing else. wu-imap is so bloated and
rife with decrepit, cross-platform, insecure code that I avoid it for
any new servers. Courier-imap only supports maildirs but has some
wierdnesses that I've come to live with.

fsck - and there was much rejoicing
Looks like the fsck bug has been stomped! I did a 960G drive this morning,
and I'm 90% of the way through a 1.4T drive, both of which have *lots* of
files and hard links, and it has *not* hung at 70.1%, and is running at
reasonable speed.
Thanks to the folks who got this one. I *really* needed to do this, esp.
to our backup drives.

running existing windows programs in wine
I have an existing windows installation in dual-boot with archlinux. I'd really like to be able to run some windows programs within arch without rebooting, but I'm installed on an SSD so space is limited.
How can configure wine to run my programs from my windows partition within arch linux? I've been google searching for an answer to little avail.
Thanks for any help!

does rsync lock exclusively files to copy?
I'm running rsync 2.5.6 on windows (via cygwin) and I've had other processes try to open the same files as rsync, but could not get through sometimes. Does rsync place a shared lock or an exclusive lock on the files it will copy from?
I checked into the sources but did not find any use of flock() which could specify either LOCK_SH or LOCK_EX, so I'm not sure what the open() does when
