"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
Is there a good, foolproof dovecot-openldap tutorial that walks you through
the steps and works with the newest version of both softwares?
I'm giving up and starting anew.

Cyrus IMAPd provides exactly that, easily ;-)

Ms Exchange vs dovecot
First of all, Exchange is a complete solution. Dovecot is a imap/pop3
server ( a good one, sure... )
So replacing exchange means to find an integrated solution.
about the questions: public folder was removed in exchange. IMHO they
made the right choice :)
There is a different thing, need different tools and different client
app. You can create shared mailboxes ( i think it's a little

how to separate virtual delivery and authentication?
...e multiple e-mail addresses on a single account.
I actually use a filter like ( mail=%u)|(uid=%u) but I think for more complex
situations should be better to have two separate filters, one for
authentication and the other for the delivery. What is your oppinion?

Public folder is not removed, they were thinking of it, and community
complained (afaik), so they kept it, still there in 2019. (although
changed)

Aw: Dovecot - Postfix Calender Synchronisation
I still find impediments to the adoption of any of those "solutions". Too many software dependencies, like PHP, DB, python, and a virtual machine. --- There are two portable file formats for calendar and contacts that work across applications and systems, but no server that can use them, and use them safely.

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
I remember back in the dialup era there was a small company in Timisoara
who tried to sell this kind of solution. (They started to sell servers
after a while so I guess they didn't have much success selling? their
workaround) So I guess it is not trivial to sort again all the mails and
deliver each one in a mailbox after you mixed all together in a single
catchall mailbox. Could be done

Dovecot proxy ignores trusted root certificate store
Dovecot v2.2.18
OS: FreeBSD 10.1/amd64
Dovecot in proxy mode ignores the root certificate store and can't verify
the backend's SSL certificate.
I've pointed ssl_client_ca_file to my root certificate store, but I
suspect ssl_client_ca_file is only used in imapc context. It seems to be
ignored in proxy context.
doveconf -n ssl_client_ca_file:

DoS (was IMAP-auth on LAN and otherwise)
Today the problem raised its head again, with a twist. A LAN client lost the DNS setting that pointed directly to the LAN address of the IMAP server, and two things happened: the LAN client could not connect to IMAP as we know, and a telephone call from the external client reported the same. When the LAN client closed Thunderbird, then the external client regained access. There were no other

"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
Hello there, first time writing.
I'm relatively new to linux and have been tasked with setting up the
following configuration:
Debian Wheezy Server
Postfix
Dovecot
OpenLDAP
So, I set up the Server, installed and configured postfix, ldap and dovecot
(in that order) and now simply try to log into the mail account with a used
from the LDAP over telnet.
The test looks like this:
