Re: R-Gnome. I don't want abuse!
...here are times when it would be nice to have a GUI, though,
for touching up graphs.
I would like a graph window where I can click on particular items and
adjust their properties, see how they look with tick marks in or out, or
spaced 5 units apart or 10, and so forth. I've been doing that with Axum
for about 7 years. If you have not tried Axum (or perhaps even the S+
that assimilated Axum, a la the StarTrek Borg, although I don't use it
much), you should and you might revise your opinion about the value of a
good OO graphing package. I can put a graduate student with Axum and
they can m...

I don't see much value in even trying to maintain compatibility
at this level. The big corporate development at MathSoft Seattle
has been the acquisition of Axum, so the inventive energy and
experience are in place to give the graphics system (of S-PLUS at
any rate) the shake-up of its life. S-PLUS 4.0 is effectively an
Axum dll, in fact, so the tail already wags the dog. What next?
Compatibility is a worthwhile ideal in principle but not if it

Little graph questions!
...a way to say "top left part of graph", but
the best i can come up with is to find the coordinates of the max or min
values of x and y and put the text there.
I have that code in the bottom of this one:
http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/R/ExampleCode/template_poisson4.r
After using Axum for years, this seems a bit odd to me, but I'm willing
to do it, if that is what you really intend us to do.

ps commandline option woes (-v weired formatting, more power for -m)
...output to be memory sorted.
i.e. -u option implies -r (-r = sort by current cpu usage)
Now I find the output format of -u very attractive, I often use it.
But I can't overwrite the sort order from "cpu usage" to "memory
usage" by additionally typing in -m,
ps -axum still keeps the sort order "by cpu"
So, if there is an extra commandline option for "sort by mem"
why doesn't it have precedence over others ???
Wouldn't it make sense ?
Would a problem report be justified for 2) as well ?

to 1) ps -v,...

100% of cpu in an out of the box *
Hi all!
I'm newbie, so here goes my situation:
I have succefully compiled the cvs version as shown in asterisk website in
some linux distros: Debian
(2.4.22), Conectiva, Fedora Core 1 and in all of them, * starts and consumes
all the cpu (on top).
Does anybody know this issue?
Thanks!

using GUI
A few days ago I loaded R version 1.4.1 to run on Windows 98 and
haven't been able to find information on the GUI approach in the FAQs, R
Reference Index, or Search Engine . Edit has an item that allows changing
GUI preferences, and the Target path in the icon ends in Rgui.exe, so it
appears that R for Windows does include using the GUI approach.
In S-Plus I wrote a application with
