auctex-11.82 el4 RPMs
Hi,
Has someone managed to build auctex-11.82 RPMs for el4/i386?
A rpmbuild -ta on the tarball from gnu.org gives me:
RPM build errors:
File not found: /var/tmp/auctex-root/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/preview

Auctex on CentOS 5
Anyone have Auctex for CentOS 5. I found RPMs for el4 but would rather
use EL5 RPMs possible.

While this most likely involves reftex/ess interaction, I wondered
if someone on these lists is successfully using the combination

(on a GNU/Linux Debian unstable system).

Installing R+Emacs+MikTeX editor on a USB drive
Hi R-users,
Since it has been already asked for several times, I would like to share my
solution
that I have gathered from several sources on internet for portable
R+Emacs+MikTeX.
This may also help some future R-users.

I am currently using a combination of emacs-auctex and winefish, with
the occasional usage of kile.
After a bit of experimentation I've found the program, its 'texmaker'
from kbs-CentOS-Extra. Thanks everyone for your comments :)

You didn't give me some packages, so now I'm giving you some! R, TexLive, LyX, Gnumeric, etc.
...ems OK. I uploaded the src.rpm files for
the packages that I actually had to re-configure, even in the
slightest. Otherwise, everything is in Fedora 8 or Fedora 9.
We use LyX to edit LaTeX, so I had to have a newer version, along with
pybliographic (which required recode). We also use Emacs and auctex
to edit LaTeX, so those had to be built as well.
All of these packages were built on a stock Centos 5.2 system, with
all components as usual EXCEPT for the ones I provide below or the
packages that can be downloaded from EPEL. As far as I can tell,
everything works as well as it does on Fedora, n...

Latex editor recommendations
This question is not oriented towards R, but is posted here because I
have the impression that there are at least some Latex users among the
contributors. The question is: What editors for Latex are to be
recommended? I have located one:
http://www.latexeditor.org/
What other alternatives are there? I am (for the most part) using
Windows XP.

Dear R People:
I have finally seen the error of my ways and have decided to use ESS for R

However, I have a question right from the beginning. I'm somewhat confused

Do I install XEMACS or ESS first, please?

Sweave
I'm trying to (re)learn Sweave and run into some problems. I use now ubuntu
(8.10), emacs + ess.
Slowly getting upto speed on ess. I have a complete (hopefully) .Rnw file,
but the resulting .tex
will not compile. The file does not contain anything exotic, but it produces
pdf figures, and that
is where the problems come:

Linux editor for R+LaTeX, but not Emacs
Using Tinn-R (in windows) is possible to run latex and R from the same
editor, which was great. Now, I am using Ubuntu-linux, which has been
better than WinXP. Currently, I am using Emacs (and then install ESS)
for running LaTeX and R from a same editor-program (like i was doing
with Tinn-R in windows). Nevertheless, and even though i have been using
Emacs for almost 2 years, it is not as

Hi,
Kurt Hornik and I will start to publish a quarterly electronic

beginning with January 2001 (if all goes well). The idea is to have a

R command history -- can it be like Matlab's?
Hi all,
In R GUI window, if you use "up" and "down" key, you will be able to recall
the previous and next command that has been used and stored in the command
history cache.
But there is one inconvenience:
In Matlab, you can type the first a few characters of the command that you
previously used,
and then press ?up" key, you will be able to get to that previous

R-beta: Latex and R
Hello R users,
This question might be already discussed before, I apologize
if it is the case.
Simple... how can I do to include a figure in a latex document.
As I have already done in Splus, I tried this:

\special{psfile=gauss.ps .......}
\end{figure}
but it didn't work. Any help?
Thank you in advance.

Latex Question
Here is how to print graphs for inclusion in Latex.
First make sure you've got the graph you want. Do this by
repeating and editing the command to make the graph, in the usual
way. (Yes, I know Miktex is good, but it isn't as good as Emacs
with ESS, although I admit that I could never configure Emacs
properly on Windows - which was reason #23.5 for giving up
Windows.)

help with help()
Hi all
Just this morning I upgraded to R 2.12.0 (for Mac OS X 10.6.4).
All went well until I needed to run a help() or help.search() in my session,
which I'm running within Emacs (ESS 5.3.7).
Say I need help with the command 'density'. When I type
help(density)
or
?density
the ESS help buffer opens, it is titled *help[R](density)* but it contains
only a couple of lines saying,
