Questions about AGI and Wildcard boards
...enough about *
yet to determine if this is feasable.
It would also be nice to be able to selectively record any or all calls
coming in.
Basically this system is supposed to replace the current paper and pencil
method of taking calls, while allowing monitoring of the operators.
Thanks!

Seperating Forground from Background
...trying to perfectly encode the background and as a result the
foreground image suffers.
I was wondering if there is any way to separate the foreground objects from
the background so that more bits can be spend on the foreground. Is this
sort of thing even remotely possible?

VM Creation Timestamp
Hello,
Is there any way to query libvirt, ideally through virsh CLI utility or
similar, to get a timestamp of when a VM was created.
Or to put it another way, a timestamp of when a domain's UUID was allocated.
Many thanks,

Vignettes with long compute time
Is there a way to include the compiled version of a vignette in the doc directory but mark
it to NOT be rerun by CRAN??? I think I remember that this is possible, but have forgotton
how.?? (It might even be a false memory.)
Terry T.
Background:? Beth Atkinson and I are splitting out many of the vignettes from the survival
package into a separate package survivalVignettes.? There are a few reasons
?1. Some vignettes use packages outside of the base + recommended set; psueodovalues for
instance are normally used as input to a subsequent GEE model.???...

Default Hidden Disk Shares
Windows automatically creates an Admin level disk share as \\server\volume$
<file:///\\server\volume$> .
Can anyone tell me if Samba automatically does the same without having to
define these in SMB.CONF?
Thanks, Robert.

Confidence Bounds on QQ Plots?
What's the current best wisdom on how to construct confidence
bounds on something like a normal probability plot?
I recall having read a suggestion to Monte Carlo something like
201 simulated lines with the same number of points, then sort the order
statistics, and plot the 6th and 196th of these. [I use 201 not 200
because quantile(1:201, c(0.025, 0.975)) = 6 and 196 while

rpart
...r r-help-list:
If I use the rpart method like
cfit<-rpart(y~.,data=data,...),
what kind of tree is stored in cfit?
Is it right that this tree is not pruned at all, that it is the full tree?
If so, it's up to me to choose a subtree by using the printcp method.
In the technical report from Atkinson and Therneau "An Introduction to recursive partitioning using the rpart routines" from 2000, one can see the following table on page 15:
CP nsplit relerror xerror xstd
1 0.105 0 1.00000 1.0000 0.108
2 0.056 3 0.68519 1.1852 0.111

plotting rpart objects, text.rpart, fancy option
I have created plots of rpart objects with the fancy option for text.rpart
("fancy" creates ellipses and rectangles and labels branches with splitting
criteria). The ellipses and rectangles are supposed to "interrupt" the tree
lines (as seen in Therneau and Atkinson 1997, page 48, Fig. 18,
http://www.mayo.edu/hsr/techrpt/61.pdf), but they do not, even when I use
Therneau and Atkinson's code.
> plot(tree, uniform = T, branch = 0.2, compress = T, margin = 0.1)
> text(tree, all = T, use.n=T, fancy = T)
How do I "interrupt" the tree lines?

Random Coefficients using coxme
Hello, I was hoping someone could answer a question for me that may
either be statistical or script related. I don't come from a statistics
background, so I am not positive if I am using the correct nomenclature
or even the correct procedure. Is it possible to model "random
coefficients" in a mixed effects cox-regression using coxme from the
Kinship package? For example, using

Is mount_smbfs broken in 6.1-PRERELEASE?
Anyone know if mount_smbfs is broken in 6.1, I'm trying to run this:
"mount_smbfs -I 192.168.1.2 //nbritton@192.168.1.2/music2 /mnt/network/music/"
And then it asks for my password, I type it in, and then I get this error:
"mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Authentication error"
I've had this same problem on another 6.1 box too... I can run this

Presumably none of these missing files are crucial or somebody would
have noticed sooner. However I thought I should report this just in
case somebody is suffering from these read errors. Perhaps the full
image exists somewhere but wasn''t properly uploaded?
Cheers,
Sean.

I've not been able to try SIP as of yet, as I've not found a softclient and

Question re labels in r-part (continuation of a thread from a while back)
...all = T, pretty = 0,
:
Label must be a column label of the frame component of the
tree
Any thoughts or insights or help appreciated, as always
Peter
PS Given the recent posts on the thread about how to ask questions, I
should perhaps add that I have looked thru ?rpart, and through Atkinson
