problems installing wine
I just downloaded the latest version of wine from the site to install on my system. My system is an Athalon XP 2400+ running Fedora Core 3, fully updated. I downloaded the file wine-20050419-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm and installed it, then installed winetools-2.1.1-jo.i386.rpm to go with it. I started winetools to do the configuration and completed each step of the base install one at a time until I got t...

Warning regarding AMD Athalon 64 4200+(HVM/AMD-V)
Hello to all, For those evaluating the AMD X2 4200+ series for the purposes of running HVM guests, take a note below before purchasing if the server you are purchasing happens to be made by HP. There is an oddball version (apparently OEM sold to HP) which does *not* support AMD-V technology. I''ve seen many of these on e-bay as well as for sale / lease by popular co-location facilities.

guest vms crash host systems
...e a problem. I had an ati firepro graphics card in the machine, but suspected that might be the source of some conflict, and I put in an Nvidia card. The vm's were built with all the defaults. The configuration is just about identical to vms I have running on a smaller machine with a dual core Athalon. Thanks for any suggestions.

I get a problem as soon as I attempt to populate it... the box is a Athalon 1.4GHz and 1GB RAM, two other 60GB drives on IDE0 and IDE1 I get an almost total slowdown/shutdown and top shows the load going to 8 or nine with noone logged in and console only.... Strange Problem with Access
I would like to pose the following problem to this mailing list to see if any of you have any suggestions you may offer. I am running samba on a RedHat 7.2 Athalon box with software RAID 0 dual IDE disks on an ext3 filesystem. I have several users in a large community of users that are always hitting the samba server. The machine has been consistently reliable with one exception. There is a particularly large MS Access Database (10Meg) that everyone li...

WARNING : wait4 timed out
Hi, I'm trying Warcraft 3 under wine and although the single player works flawlessly, I have a problem when playing online (with BNet). Every few seconds, I receive the following : WARNING : wait4 timed out and the game freezes for a 1 sec or so. It's killing me. Only happens on BNet, single player works fine. Tried cvscedega, same problem. I tried disabling pthreads but that doesn't

...ent them two requests on this issue over the last 5 months but have yet to recieve a response. My hunch is that I mention linux and they just ignor me. The network is a switched and running 100 mbs. The nic's are generally 3com. regards, Paul Novak

Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
...http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when I connect to a dual-Athalon 2600+ Win2K system attached to the network with Gigabit Ethernet. To make a long story short, I set the system up to use smbclient 3.0.0beta2 and now get a syntax error when BackupPC starts the backups. Here is the command syntax it is using: smbclient \\\\client1\\C\$ -I 192.168.1.1 -U backupp...

Debian vs Ubuntu for a postgresql database + rails
I''m going to be getting a VPS at rimuhosting.com, and it''ll only run postgresql and an app that uses AR/ActionSupport. I always use FreeBSD, but in this case my options are limited to RHEL4, FC5, Debian and Ubuntu. I figure Debian and Ubuntu are probably preferable...so which one should I go with? This will not run an email, ftp, or web server - just postgresql 8.1 plus a Ruby

Lock ups: recent, anybody else?
...ckups since then. Recent freetype had just cured some anomalies and now this. One lock while I slept, the other a few moments ago while active at the KB. Had Evolution, Firefox and T'bird open among two users on a single X console. No unusual stuff. Desktop install, fully up-to-date 4.3, i386 (Athalon). 1) see anything wrong below? 2) I'm seriously thinking of trying to back out Seamonkey and reinstalling mozilla (I've no idea what my chances are). Why? Because it was the single biggest change to the system and is therefore auto-suspect! TIA for any help/reply! Aug 06 12:04:41 - 12:...

LME & data with complicated random & correlational structures
...hat caveats exist for interpreting the variances? I'm not interpreting p-values at this point because of another issue. When I try to set up the correlation structure, I run out of memory fast. I've tried this on a mac G5, an HP Pavilion dv1000 (= Pentium 2.6GHz), and a Gateway with an AMD athalon 900MHz processors. Each system has 386M memory or more, one of which has 1G. 3- Is there a way to get rid of the serial dependency BEFORE running the model with LME(), such as initiating a corStruct before placing it in the model? I'm working with so much data that I'm fine with doing the...

Latest kde/tetex updates fail on my attempts. Is it me or ...?
Trying to apply the latest updates to an Athalon base fully updated CentOS 4.2. In the past used the update process kicked off by clicking the hand-dandy red icon. This failed, so I tried yum. Somewhere in the process, it complained that there was no GPG key for the lame libraries (IIRC, everything's a little hazy after all the Googling tryin...
