Problem with interaction between commercial and openssh
Hello all, Earlier this week we disabled protocol 1 upon our machines while installing commercial ssh 3.2.0. Suddenly I discovered that the AIX systems running Openssh were not able to connect. I upgraded to the newly minted 3.4p1 and discovered the same problem. My limited poking around has shown the following: <16:59:38>atb at ursus:>ssh -vv atb at host <snip> debug1: bits

Tables & Databinding
Hiya, I''ve recently been looking at removing the dependency in our CRM/CMS on MSIE XML Databinding so that it''ll run properly in Firefox.. The solution I''ve created uses the prototype.js lib so I thought I might share my efforts here if that''s ok? It''s still _very_ early days but there''s the beginnings of a writeup here:

Finding out about objects and classes

help improving relevance of snippets displayed by Omega
Whoops, forgot to say, as Olly said, much of that could probably now be simplified with Xapian's snippet() function, which I can only assume did not exist back when all this was written! :) ATB, Matthew On Mon, 21 Sep 2020 at 09:28, Matthew Somerville <matthew at mysociety.org> wrote: > Hi, > > Ha, I was reading this thread thinking TheyWorkForYou (which I help > maintain)

Olly, Thanks again very much for helping me improve my understanding of Xapian and Omega. Thanks especially for pointing out that my idea of trying to generate a snippet from stemmed text lacking capitalization and punctuation would probably not produce a user-friendly result. But I'm still doubtful that expanding the sample size could be the right way to obtain excerpts from the document

xapian-check sorted order error
Hi, We were running xapian-check on one of our Xapian indexes and it returns the following error: position: baseB blocksize=8K items=809896869 lastblock=2090419 revision=3161 levels=3 root=2084903 Failed to check B-tree: DatabaseError: Items not in sorted order The other tables verify without issue. It looks like our oldest backup of this database (a month old) has the same issue. Searching and

constrOptim workaround for "L-BFGS-B" or Box Constraints
This is not so much a question as a contribution, but comments are welcome. Comments: 1) thank you very much to Paul Smith in the post https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2008-March/157249.html This is intended to build on that example with something more complex than a 2x2 set of constraints 2) "L-BFGS-B" does not appear to work in optimConst Problem: let's

session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
Hi, I'm having trouble joining a Samba 2.2.7a server running on RH9 into a domain that is being served by a Windows 2003 server running AD in mixed mode. The server successfully joins the domain when using smbpasswd, however, when running smbclient -L localhost I get the following error: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE Also when attempting to access shares from windows

help improving relevance of snippets displayed by Omega
Hi, Ha, I was reading this thread thinking TheyWorkForYou (which I help maintain) does highlight terms wherever they are, and then you mentioned it :) The code is open source; it is quite old and probably hair-raising, but as you say it does basically do what you want. Our Xapian database stores terms/boolean terms/values for the text, and for the document itself stores only an identifier. It

Grant access for Unix-User _and_ virtual Users
Hi group, I have installed a postfix as an MTA and configured two "main" domains as well as two virtual mailbox domains. Normal unix users have their maildir in their homes (/home/%u) and the virtual mailboxes are located in /var/mail/vhosts. It works well, I only have a problem configuring dovecot. I wondered if it's possible to configure it in a way that both, unix users and

Very far out and static get_matches_estimated
Hi, I'm getting quite odd results using get_matches_estimated() that I haven't seen before; we've just added a bunch of new data to the database. Xapian 1.0.7, checkatleast is set to 100. The database will get new stuff added to it automatically around 8.30am BST, so it's possible this might affect the links I provide, I guess. But I'll note what is currently happening as

[OT] CAT5 IP-capable rackmount KVM units?
Rather off-topic, but I'm looking for IP-based KVMs (~16 ports) that can handle both PS/2 and USB hookups on the server side. All of the answers over at Slashdot are a few years out of date and it looks like prices on KVM head units have dropped a bit over the years. Some of the older units only worked with Windows, Internet Explorer and ActiveX. Others like the ATEN KH1516i supposedly

(no subject)
You're kinda confusing things there. A single physical network could span multiple IP networks, and a single IP network doesn't have to be restricted to one physical network. Do you mean that you want to use a single server to serve to two separate workgroups both of which are using the same physical hardware and IP network? If so, then I don't believe so, but I could be wrong.

Proper noun stemming
Hi All I was wondering if anyone had a solution for the following problem. I user QueryParser to stem my documents before adding them to a database. During the stemming process I would like to find a way of keeping proper nouns that span two or more words together as a phrase. For example "New York" or "Gordon Brown" or "Prime Minister" get spilt up. I see
