compiling rpms
...appen is when i
compile postfix w/ mysql support it will show something like
postfix-mysql-2.x.x.i386.rpm. so when i install and try to query it,
it will show postfix-mysql-2.x.x not just postfix-2.x.x. what file
should i edit to make this happen?

How can i install php 4 on Centos 4? is there RPMs for centos 4? or can i
use srpms(php4) of centos 3 to be used for centos 4?

KPPP: why root?
Hi All,
I'm wondering about something that seems a bit odd. I've setup a CentOS
4 box for a client that is "still" using dial-up and to activate the
connection appears to require root privileges. Why is this?
The reason Linux was loaded on this box was to provide a very functional
box that could be easily locked down so when the cat was away the mice
couldn't play,

...ll using 4.3.2 and centos 4 which uses 4.3.9. how about the bugfixes done
in 4.4 and 4.4.1? centos/rhel updates regularly like centos 3 which already
updated for 6 times but still uses 4.3.2? is that mean we still suffer the
bugs of the original 4.3.2?

bellsouth and centos rp-pppoe
...the provider. When i connect to
my dsl using adsl-start it keeps on terminating where can i find the logs
for rp-pppoe and anyone had this kind experience with bellsouth adsl? anyway
when i connect the modem to my linksys wrt54g router it worked fine.

iptables port forwarding
...viewing logs on forwarded ports from the firewall
to another server, i forwarded mail(port 25) from the firewall to an
internal server. The problem is when i try to view the logs it just
shows the firewall ip as the sender and not the original sender.

OT mod_security
Hi guys,
I've planning out my upgrade to CentOS4 and one of my plans for security
is to impliment the mod_security apache module to filter out unwanted
malicious intent.
Not having used it before, I wanted to see if anyone here has
implimented it and did it block any legit traffic or cause resource
traffic/serious slowdowns of their systems?

bind and caching-nameserver
i was thinking if is it possible to cache some urls in bind? I just
want to do when you send the command "ping domain.com" even if you are
disconnected to the internet it will still resolve the ip of
domain.com
