...ppropriate items to ices at the appropriate

My question is, has anyone done this already? It would be great to have a
nice web-based interface through which to manage our station(s) but if
possible I'd like to avoid writing one :).
Thanks,

the road to 1.0...

was well. I burned 5 copies, only to find out 3 days later that halfway
through one track, one channel cut out for the remainder of the track.
So, two ways that FLAC is far superior to Shorten.. incorporated checksums,
and much improved error recovery.
I see etree.org users as more of archivists than music fans, since we place
so much emphesis on bit-for-bit accuracy. Using a codec that makes this job
easier for us is a very welcome thing!
If you (or anyone else on this list) can keep track of selling points for
FLAC over other current (and future) lossless codecs, I would like to

you guys have as far as how playback of the FLAC standard could be
played back via WinAmp or similar programs (someone's gotta be working
on this, it's a must-have to help convert us SHN archivists) would be
greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any other Macintosh users out
there I'd like to hear some ideas about what needs to be included and
how we might get this accomplished. Also, I have currently adopted the

--partial not working?
Hi Kevin,
I'm not a systems manager so my apologies if I'm a little lost here. I'm an audiovisual conservator/archivist and I use rsync for transferring files, a lot.
Yes, I connect to the server and then it shows up as a disk on my desktop and I run rsync between the external drive mounted on my computer and the now mounted server. So, this would be a local copy? And, therefore, there is no way to invoke --partia...

The VM as a way of saving our digital heritage
...with any old
OS and software and be able to boot and interact
with it now, or next year or 100 years from now.
It is the answer to 'how do we guarantee access to
our digitized cultural heritage?'
That puts a great burden on the team doing this work.
It means you have to guarantee that an archivist
in 2110 can take a VM created today and boot it up
and run it on their hyper-quantum-bio computer (the
one that you could mistake for a real penguin) under
Linux version 15.4.32... and still be able to run
a Mathematica file from 2005.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I think

I found that a newline is required after the line containing the
password, at least in rsync 2.6.2. Without the newline character, I
would see this error:

@ERROR: auth failed on module mailarchive

Upon adding a newline, the problem went away.

At the time I was looking for something more stable than the current tools
to help someone on irc, but in general it's nice to have it around for
reference. Appeals to the archivist in me.
There's also the issue of the (L)GPL, which requires that the source be
made available for at least three years after the binary release. This is
why sites like kernel.org have every version that's ever been officially
announced. Of course, they're only betas, released by the pr...

I recently bought the double-CD "Influence" remaster by The Art Of Noise
and some rarer tracks were sourced from MP3 because that was all their
archivist could find. Most of the reissue was direct from analogue tapes
so this wasn't a quick "shovelware" reissue job.

Hi Kevin,
I haven't specified --whole-file. After entering an rsync command the terminal always reads "delta-transmission disabled for local transfer or --whole-file" but I assume that is just a standard phrase that always appears.
So, if I am running partial (-P) and not using --whole-file or disabling the delta-transmission, why would an incomplete file be deleted and the

Performance drop during scrub?
Hi all
I have a test system with snv134 and 8x2TB drives in RAIDz2 and currently no Zil or L2ARC. I noticed the I/O speed to NFS shares on the testpool drops to something hardly usable while scrubbing the pool.
How can I address this? Will adding Zil or L2ARC help? Is it possible to tune down scrub''s priority somehow?
Best regards

Idea to possibly improve flac?
First of all, I am not aware of any official source of FLAC files
that provide MP3 sourced data. I meticulously check the music I
purchase, especially when it is 24/48 or 24/96 material, because this
is new technology, and sometimes people get it wrong.
However, you should be aware that many modern producers use software
to create their music, and when the software stores sound clips in

Very interesting. I've purchased many CD titles with reissued
material where they clearly did not have access to anything but vinyl
for some tracks. I...

Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
