Wine success: HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
I had need of a bit of computer archeology (oddly enough, for a couple
of archaeologists, but that's another story). I used Henry Bartlett'
HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
(http://www.hotkey.net.au/~hambar/habit/wsconvrm.htm) to convert some
Wordstar for Mess-DOS files to text and HTML. It worked just fine
under wine (http://www.winehq.org). wine-20041201-1fc3winehq on Fe...

adding a new dataset to the default R distribution
Hi,
I am a student in archaeology with some interest in statistics and R.
Recently I've obtained the permission to distribute in the public domain
a small dataset (named "spearheads" with 40 obs. of 14 variables) that
was used in an introductory statistics book for archaeologists
(published in 1994).
I've rewritten most of the exercises of that book in R and made them
available at http://wiki.iosa.it/diggingnumbers:start along with the
original dataset, but I was wondering if there is a standard procedure
for getting a new dataset included in the default R distributio...

Using ControlPlayback with AWS S3
Hi,
I have tested ControlPlayback and grabbed files via an apache server with
no issue. I want to be able to grab files via aws S3 which would require me
to add some headers to authenticate. Is there any way to have Asterisk add
headers or would I need a http proxy in the middle?
TIA.

Also, any pointers to existing code that performs multi-way median
polish will be appreciated.
Sorry for the newbie-type query, but manipulating data prior to
analysis is really hard for me in R.
All the best,
Tom

wasting your time.
For a class I'm teaching in archaeological data analysis, I'm trying
to put together a routine that calculates the so-called Petersen
index and, especially, confidence intervals for the index. This was
introduced to archaeologists by N.R.J. Fieller and A. Turner in an
article in Journal of Archaeological Science (1982) called Number
Estimation in Vertebrate Samples. They say that "calculation of
precise confidence intervals for population sizes is, in principle at
least, straightforward. It involves calculati...

how to interpolate multidimensional (3D) spatial data
Hello,
I am an archaeologist who wonders wether a
multidimensional (3D) spatial interpolation
is possible in R.
The data consists of measurements in 3D space
with coordinates X-Y-Z and a measured variable
U, that is, U is measured at points located
at X-Y-Z.
e.g. a data structure like the following:
X Y Z U

[OT] - Career Advice
Hey everyone - I have a career-related question for you all.
I currently work full time as a Sr. Sys Admin, and have been doing
systems work for about 9 years. I have been doing web development
work on and off during this time, and have written quite a few
internal applications and scripts for several companies I worked for.
I have never worked in the full time capacity of a software developer
