Need a little kick start to compile appletalk module
RHEL 4 (and thus CentOS 4) do not have appletalk module included.
CentOSPlus rather thoughtfully has the 'unsupported' version which would
have the appletalk module but I have been unable to get the old megaraid
driver to run compiled from the kernel-devel for these 'unsupported'
kernels.
Thus I would love to simply compile the a...

[heads up] axing AppleTalk and IPX/SPX
Hello!
[Cc to stable@, for wider audience]
The plan is two axe two old networking protocols from FreeBSD head/,
meaning that FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE, available in couple of years would
be shipped without them.

Appletalk printing through Samba
Hi,
I've really tried a lot of things but can't work it out....
I've got a Apple Laserwriter 630 working through appletalk/netatalk. Using
lp/lpr I'm able to print, no problem.
However, when using samba through Windows ME, the printer will print my
pages but also throws out an additional blank page and a page with:
ERROR: undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND:

This is my printer throwing out a page because someth...

Is the unsupported kernel considered stable-ish?
I have a need to use the unsupported kernel for one feature only
(AFP/Appletalk support). Never having had to use it before, I''m unsure
of what''s all in it other than reading it''s config file.
From those that do use it -- is it considered stable enough to use in
lightweight production? I''m debating the use of it versus wasting my
time rebu...

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,
Joe

rpmbuild a kernel module
...ld like to be.
Problem is new kernel 2.6.9-22 and I need 2 modules installed that
aren't part of the RHEL kernels.
1 - megaraid for older non-supported megaraid cards. I have the source
and can compile the modules and make them work no problem. We have
archives in the mail list for that.
2 - appletalk - previously, it was suggested that I get the module from
esmith which I did and it has worked fine but they have yet to update to
the new kernel (which they will undoubtedly do). So I have the source
for their 2.6.9-11 appletalk kernel module but I am not knowledgeable
enough to make this work......

Netatalk connection on Samba machine account - security breach?
...d netatalk (1.5pre7
as supplied by SuSE73). Samba machine accounts are added to /etc/passwd
automatically by the command
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 90 -s /bin/false -M %u
when a NT machine is added to the Windows domain. Now strangely I find in
the logfiles logins on the appletalk service using one of these machine
accounts (curlywurly$)! (see syslog below)
First thing I did was manually exclude the group "machines" (80) from any
atalk connection. Now, should I worry about what happened? How can I find
out more?

AppleTalk(netatalk)+Samba
Hi folks,
is anybody using those two products together and can give me any advice
on how to do this? My specific issue has been addressed in other posts
before, but as nobody responded, it would just now be interesting if
anybody at least uses those applications together successfully?

unsupported modules on CentOS 4
I know that appletalk module is not included in RHEL 4 and therefore not
included in CentOS 4.
RHEL 3/CentOS 3 had them in kernel-[smp-]unsupported
Is there a way to get the module loaded in CentOS 4.1 or do I have to
compile a kernel from source?
Thanks

Dynamic Link Aggregation via Samba
Hi,
I have run into the following I bonded 6 NICs on my Cent OS server into
a 600MB pipe. I use bond method 4 = dynamic Link aggregation. My Cysco
Switch supports this apparently.
However I only get increased bandwidth from my MAC by connecting via
AFP. However when I connect via SMB I don't. I was told to change the
sockect options to the following on my smb.conf file on my fileserver:

Netatalk ???
Hi,
Is it from my eyes, or Centos (or for that matters, RHEL) doesn't
include netatalk ????
If not, does it bring something else for the same porpous ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a command one can issue to check if the kernel supports a

Let's say, for instance, Appletalk, or NTFS.
Whatever...

8 bit filenames?
Are there any characters that can occur in filenames that will choke
rsync?
We're transferring lots of data, and some of our users' filenames appear
to have their high bit set.
I don't expect it to cope with filenames having a \0 or / in them
(sometimes created over appletalk shares - strange but true), but it'd
be great to know if rsync can handle all other characters, or only
"normal" characters.
Thanks!
