Wine AppDB etiquette ?
Dont know if iys the done thing, but I contacted the writer of an app I maintain in AppDB, to point out that his app runs perfectly under Linux and Wine. Straught away he modified his webpage to include the fact, and a link to the AppDB page for his application. Cheers, Ron. -- I prefer the most unjust peace to the most righteous...

The pros and cons of a wiki AppDB
...ke bureaucracy. It makes drive-by reports way too hard. Keep it simple, you'll get more information and therefore more good information. (Disclaimer: I'm a Wikipedia admin and press volunteer, so I think of wikis as good default solutions for lots of things ;-) What do users want from the AppDB? They want to know how well the app works with Wine, and what tweaks are needed to get it working. I'd be tempted to just go and start a wiki on the subject myself, but it'd be duplicated effort with the present AppDB. So I'd rather try to make a case for it. The present AppDB is lack...

To AppDB, or not to AppDB ?
I have several Windows executable that do run under Wine, and that only install a number of files in a directory, and modify the registry so that the main GPS mapping app can find and use them. Is it worth making an AppDB entry for such progs ? Cheers, Ron. -- About the most originality that any writer can hope to achieve honestly is to steal with good judgment. -- Josh Billings -- ht...

Sync use accounts between appdb, wine-bugs and wine-forums
Currently, I have two accounts : one for wine-bugs and one for appdb. That doesn't annoy me as it is, but that would be cool f those were merged together. I don't know if it is possible, since appdb, bugzilla and phpbb are three different php programs, but that would help new users to participate on every side of wine. By the way, I saw that my tr'd mes...

APPDB now appears to be working at normal acceptable speed for administrator login's + backlog of APPDB data requiring approval.
Thanks go out to whoever it was that fixed the AppDB so that it's now running nice and quick again. I can now login and submit applications/tests etc. There's a backlog of 500+ submissions which will take 2-4 hours to clear, hopefully this should be cleared within the next few days. Nick

WANTED (dead or alive): additional AppDB maintainer
Hi all, as I'm currently in my studies duties again and the AppDB submissions are piling up enormously (> 20 new entries in less than two weeks), I'm looking for one or two additional AppDB maintainers to do the Beowulf thingy ;-) (I'm talking about http://appdb.winehq.org, here) The job description can be found at http://www.winehq.org/about/index.ph...

AppDB instructions
Hey Gang, I'm new here so I get to as a few dumb questions without feeling too dumb about it... Several posts have been kind enough to include links to the AppDB pages, which I have been using, but I don't find there the instructions people allude to. All I find in AppDB pages is lists and rankings and images and basically a report of how well it works and less about how to make it work for you or me. I don't know how to paste a link yet, but the...

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie. I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand...

New AppDB - I am the only one to hate it?
Until a couple of days ago, I could look in the AppDB like in a tree from category to category and I had the name of the application IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. Now there is some field to click, search by rating .etc but if I want to find my application, I have to go through 200 applications rated by last entries. I seriously don't find anything anymo...

Re: [AppDB] modify installs and runs fields

Well http://appdb.winehq.org/help/?topic=maintainer_ratings spells it out that gold is just that. An application can be rated as Gold if it installs and runs "out of the box". Some maintainers may have a distorted or over optimistic opinion of their application. So we need to clean that up and change...

Wine 1.00 the AppDB and State of the Winehq website.
In looking forward to the release of wine 1.0 I have a question about "Browse Applications by Rating" http://appdb.winehq.org/browse_by_rating.php When adding test data you can only add reports on what looks like the last 6 releases? Eg wine versions 0.956 / 0.957 /0.958 /0.959 /0.960 /0.961 Do these stat's on "Browse Applications by Rating" report this? If not what does this actually report? O...

Website: appdb feedback for older versions of wine?
...his means it'll be supported for a while. But it also means that there's a base of users of an older version of Wine that will want to try out programs but will want to see how an app performs against the Wine version they're using. To that end, I'd love to contribute to the Wine appdb, but the appdb currently only supports entries for really recent and unstable 1.1 versions of Wine, and not the "stable" 1.0.1 version noted on the FAQ 2.1 "Which version of Wine should I use?" at http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-0bae04b4126dffb8a08bf020982badacb6f367ff It woul...

Random software that no one has, and is not in the appdb.
I have a bunch of children's games and other random software that came in cereal boxes :). Obviously 80% of these programs aren't even in the appdb, and half of them don't work for one reason or another. For the symptoms that each show when being run under wine; what can I search for to see if it's a known bug (tm) or has a workaround or if I can just expect them to hit the garbage can with no hope of ever being supported. I don'...

Problem registering to the AppDB
Hi, for some reason I can't register to the AppDB with my email. When I press the "Create Account" button at the bottom of the form, I only get a page with the AppDB logo and the CodeWeavers ad. No message or email that the registration succeeded, no error message. :( When trying to browse the AppDB again, I only get a white page until I...

How to delete Apps from the AppDB?
Hi, I maintain several apps in the appdb. I lately discovered 2 unmaintained apps that are exactly the same that I maintain but which remain in a different category. I adopted them and tried to merge them with the ones that are in the correct section. But how do I delete the "old" apps? I couldn't find an option for that....
