Hello all, I have a RedHat 5.1 system running SAMBA and the machines and users log on properly but no one can select, create, delete or do anything with subdirectories. I checked the logs and it seems that the share names are not being 'made' properly. Is there a setting or problem with 5.1 install that I need to change??? Thanks Paul Farber Farber Technology

i'm looking for an answer to the problem WIN98/samba-connection. It shows the same failure as shown by WinNT unless the change of Registry to EnablePlainPasswd. Hi, I am using Samba 1.9.18. The server is running on Solaris 2.5.1 and the client is on Win NT 4.0 I am annoyed by the Control-M characters appearing in text files when the files are edited on Windows editors and viewed in vi on Sun machine. I had to manually remove the Control-M characters. Is there a way to eliminate the Control M characters ? Thanks Krishna

Hi all, I want to move a filesystem off of my NT server over to my Network Appliance NFS server to then be shared via Samba. I assume the easiest way to accomplish this would be to use smbtar. Do I then use smbtar to extract the tar file I create with smbtar, or, can I use gnutar? Does it matter? Am I safer sticking with smbtar? I'm guessing that since smbtar is a wrapper around
