Strange problem with icons!
Check out these MSKB articles. They describe how shortcuts are resolved. In particular, the last one describes the process required to "fix" this behaviour. I had a LOT of trouble when I first set up my LAN because people had a nasty habit of sharing drive C (even I used to do this until I discovered that this is a Bad Idea). The main problem is that the shortcut includes the UNC

Slowdown when copying large files
I am currently investigating using samba on a Linux box to provide file server services on our NT LAN (I'm a bit sick of NT doing dummy spits on me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba- 1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm) The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as

Question on installing .run file
I am trying to automate the install of the ati driver package. Basically all I do is hit return about 6 times and take all the defaults. I tried to do this in a file that I then made executable with 744: sh ati-driver-installer-10-8-x86.x86_64.run << EOF EOF but then it starts like its doing something but never does anything. How might I automate such an install script. Again

cr repository when running your own mirror
Hi, what is the right way to deal with the new cr repository for centos 5 when you are running your own mirror. In particular the following statement I don't fully understand: - Once 5.7 is released, the 5.6/cr/ repositories will be removed ( they will not be available on vault.centos.org ) Christian.

Strangest thing. Since some time Marts 25. I'm no longer receiving mails from the dovecot mailing list server. Mails from other sources are behaving fine. Instead I'm just seing Mar 26 08:27:54 dna01 postfix/smtpd[107746]: Anonymous TLS connection established from talvi.dovecot.org[94.237.25.159]: TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits) Mar 26 08:27:54 dna01

Fixed, we had smtp_security_level=verify, which I forgot to remove when we removed the relay server we used. Now it should work. CVE-2016-5195 “DirtyCOW”: Critical Linux Kernel Flaw
What is the best approach on centos 6 to mitigate the problem is officially patched? As far as I can tell Centos 6 is vulnerable to attacks using ptrace. There is a mitigation described here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1384344#c13 which doesn't fix the underlying problem, but at least protects against known attack vectors. However, I'm unsure if the script only

repodata out of sync for centos6-updates
Hi, I wanted to update the bind package on our centos-6 servers, and the package is there for the mirrors I've checked, but the repodata dates back from January 18. May be I'm too fast and the repodata update comes later. If so how long can it take? Cheers, Christian.
