Process safe log files with multiple mongrels
I have a rails application that runs on multiple mongrels and I would
like to make the log files non-interlacing. Are there any logging
modifications/other loggers out there that I could use to create
process safe logging?
Thank you,
Matt Margolis

libevent
Hello,
I have been looking at the Ruby/EventMachine. First let me say it look very
good. Reactor model with no threads makes for fast reliable server, and I
have read about marvelous Twisted framework for Python and am glad to see
something similar for Ruby.
I am writing network app with Ruby threads now and it very slow, and I try
new Ruby 1.9 with native threads that make it much slower.

epoll increasing latency big time
Sorry this is going to be a bit vague, but I''ve noticed something rather odd
going on with EventMachine on Linux.
I''ve written something uses EventMachine to proxy HTTP to other processes.
On OS X, it works great, adding only about 20% extra latency into the
connection when proxying versus connecting to the original backend process
directly, so a 5ms connection might now take

swifty fly?
I heard about a new mongrel plugin or version that''s single threaded and
uses non-blocking IO with events. It''s called something like "swifty
fly". Anyone have a link for it?
Thanks.

Some architecture questions for my mongrelian friends
Hey,
I''m working on a project, and mongrel may be part of the stack, but
I''ve got some more general questions and ideas I''m hoping to run by
this list. The people on this list have a broader knowledgebase and
more experience than any place else I know - plus a general
friendliness and willingness to help!
I''m working with a company who has a really antique

mongrel becoming unresponsive
Hello,
I''m running mongrel behind apache via proxypass. Every now and then, a spammer
tries to proxy traffic through apache, and for some reason, apache forwards
the request to mongrel, even though it''s not a site being hosted by me.
At times this seems to cause mongrel to become unresponsive, and all requests
to the site then fail with a proxy error until mongrel is

multi threaded theoretically useful?
So here''s a random question: if a (Ruby) multi-threaded rails server could
exist (bug free), would it be faster than using a mongrel cluster?
(I.e. 10 mongrel processes versus 10 Ruby threads). I''m not sure if
it would. RAM it
might save, though. Any thoughts?

mongrel garbage collection
Sorry, for the re-post, but I''m new to the mailing list and wanted to bring
back up and old topic I saw in the archives.
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2008-February/004991.html
I think a patch to delay garbage collection and run it later is pretty
important for high performance web applications. I do understand the
trade-offs of having explicit vs. implicit garbage
