trying ti use a function in aggregate
Hi -I am using R v 2.13.0. I am trying to use the aggregate function to
calculate the percent at length for each Trip_id and CommonName. Here is a
small subset of the data.

Named backreferences in replacement patterns
Hi
I have a problem with substitutions involving named backreferences. I
have a vector American.dates:
> American.dates
[1] "5/15/1976" "2.15.1970" "1.9.2006"
which I want to change into British.dates:
> British.dates
[1] "15/5/1976" "15/2/1970" "9/1/2006"
I know I can do it like this:
British.dates<-sub("(\\d{1,2}...

British or American spelling?
I was curious to read the following in the "Guidelines for Rd files" at
http://developer.r-project.org/Rds.html:
"For consistency, aim to use British (rather than American) spelling.
(NB: British spelling often uses -ize as in `capitalize'. The view of
spell -b
of British spelling is a flawed American one. There are English/Scottish
differences too.)"
because R seems to use American spellings throughout, e.g., "color" instead

Keeping the order of data set when plotting
...ve a data frame with 3 columns and I want to order the entire list by one
column and then plot. I used order() and it does order the data set but when
I plot it is as if the set is as it was originally. I also can't figure out
how to plot two sets of data on the same graph. I have,
Occupation American.Workers Foreign.Workers
Accountant 12 2
Engineer 45 54
Doctor 50 37
I want to be able to order American.Workers and then
plot(Occupation,American.Workers) and plot(Occupation,Foreign.Workers) on
the same graph.

AOL.
As an *English* speaker (as in "not American"), I also see "master" as -
not exactly reverential - but as a leader (or a youngster - the
diminutive of Mister).
And reading the link against it, almost the first post I read was an
African American saying that a lot of this was totally irrelevant to
him, and was a lot of whit...

I sometimes think that it?s pointless for Americans to talk much about recent events in Gaza because we know how it will play out ? America will do absolutely nothing to interfere with the

American vs English
Folks,
A few people have made me aware of some omissions in my files (not my
fault, they weren't in the Script from the Wiki) which I shall be
tackling this weekend.
Whilst I'm making the files are there any other files you want? IVR's
etc. If so make sure I have a script sent by email.

Voipjet experiment
Hi List,
I'm wondering if someone who uses VoipJet as their termination service
would do me a favor.
If I call the American Airlines reservation number (1-800-433-7300), the
call gets connected, but after 30 seconds asterisk drops the call
responding that no one answered.
I'm using areskicc2 (calling card app) as an authentication system and I
don't know if that is what is causing the problem, or if VoipJet...

Data source for American college football rankings?
An interesting, and topical, example of multivariate data for
classroom illustrations are the American college football rankings.
Starting at the end of October (or "week 8", the 8th week of the
football season) a set of rankings called the BCS (Bowl Championship
Series) will be published. This is a composite ranking based on two
subjective polls, the Harris and USA Today polls, and a tri...

Ordering BRI From AT&T
...n tell me who to
call in order to get a BRI.
Is anyone familiar with how to order a BRI from AT&T (Or a CLEC that
covers Michigan)? I need 2 BRI Circuits (4 B Channels) with 20 DIDs
accross the 4 circuits. Also, can anyone confirm that an Eicon Diva
Server BRI Card will in fact support North American BRI?
Are there any less expensive cards that will handle North American BRI?
Any help highly appreciated

iraq statistics - OT
I came across this one:
http://www.nysun.com/article/32787
which says that the violent death rate in Iraq (which presumably
includes violent deaths from the war) is lower than the violent
death rate in major American cities.
Does anyone have any insights from statistics on how to
interpret this?

...; I said "Ghetto" America! What is "Ghetto"
America, I'm glad you asked. Before I go on please be warned,
this explanation may not sit well with many of you, however it is
no less true! "Ghetto" America is a society of individuals
comprised primarily of African Americans who represent the
impoverished, and often unpolished side of "Black America;"
Confused?! I shall explain further; have you ever passed by a
typical ghetto community; namely the "projects" and noticed an
unusual amount of fancy cars parked throughout that particular

I think I need National, maybe National 1 or National 2. I already
got an NT-1. I'm getting a few ISDN phones to test the circuit.
