general question about samba.
Hi there, I'm fairly new to the linux community so excuse my ignorance. I've setup a test network with w2k serer and linux rh 8.0. I'm using kde and trying to configure samba for file sharing between both. Is samba already setup by default or do I need to download the packages? Is there any decent doc's for this type of setup? Samba ON NT?
Has anyone tried to compile Samba on Windows 2000? I know it's a weird idea, but I don't like the fact that W2K shares c$, d$, RPC$, etc. With Cygwin, I didn't get past configure, it complained that locking was unavaliable and bombed out. Is it technically feasable to get Samba running on Cygwin? (I disabled Server&Co in my Services already :} ) Thanks! --Brandon Bergren (Please

seg fault joining domain
I upgraded my Samba alpha 21 to alpha 22 and the clients stoped accessing the shares. As I have experienced this before, I started the debugging process, until I reached the part of joining the win2k Domain. Thats where things crash with the following message: [2003/03/18 11:13:59, 1] libsmb/clikrb5.c:krb5_mk_req2(256) krb5_cc_get_principal failed (No credentials cache found) [2003/03/18

./configure problems using --with-pam under Debian stable.
Hey, all. I'm running Debian stable, and when I try to ./configure --with-pam for either 2.2.7a or 2.2.8a, I wind up with [...] checking whether struct passwd has pw_age... (no subject)
Hello. I am running Samba version 2.2.5 on Redhat Linux 8.0, kernel version 2.4.18-14. Encrypted passwords = yes; security = user; wins server =169.254.1.2; netbios name = SambaServer. My client is Windows 2000, service pack 3. I am only able to browse my samba shares only if I use the ip address of my samba server. For example on Winddows 2000 I run: NET USE \\169.254.1.1, I can see the

Debian: loading Zaptel modules at boot time
Sorry, but this may be a really dumb question. How do I load the zaptel modules wcfxo and wcfxs at boot time on my Debian Sarge system? The file zaptel.init used by the command "make config" appears to be designed for redhat type systems and does not work for me. I have tried reading the man pages for update-modules but I'm stupid and cannot figure it out. Thanks, Mike

How can I restart samba?
I'm fiddling with the various configuration files to try and get Samba working - after making changes to various files I end up rebooting [shudder] the box to get the settings to take. I invoke the smbd, and nmbd binaries from a root bash command line, each with the "-D" option. I can't seem to send a "kill SIGHUP" command to the PID I read from a "ps -ex"

Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone! I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our linux users. I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our email needs).

Winbind issues
Several questions really (all on the stable 2.2.2 samba compiled with winbind and acls (and Brandon Stone's recycle bin), with a 2.4.14 kernel along with acls from acl.bestbits.at on a RedHat 7.2 box)... 1) Does anyone know how to stop the security event log on an NT PDC filling up with lots of ANONYMOUS accesses to the Security Account Manager eg: Object Open: Object Server: Security

machine accounts
Well I thank everybody that helped me get swat working. I am very thankful. Now, though, it seems I have more problems. When I try to join my samba domain, my XP box says "a domain controller for the domain edith could not be contacted." Okay, well, after reading up on things in this list, it seems that I need to create a machine account. I didn't have to on my NT box. When I

Asterisk newbie questions
Hi everyone. I'm a bit of a Linux newbie, but I've been doing tech stuff for ages. I'm also brand new to *. I've been reading the Voip.org wiki, and perusing the list archives for a while since I've been asked to investigate using IP telephone / soft phones for a call-center type scenario. People (marketing folks) have pointed me at Cisco, but I really don't wanna.
