state of ia64 and/or Altix?
What is the current state of Xen ia64 on SGI Altix? I see some Altix patches
from sgi.com, I assume this means it is tested. Is it stable? Are there more
appropriate mailing lists or documentation to query?
Thankyou,
Tim

CentOS 4.5 on SGI Altix
Hi All,
I have been able to successfully CentOS 4.5 on a SGI Altix 450 with 8P
and 12GB of RAM.
When at the EFI prompt I had to boot with the following parameters
elilo linux text console=ttySG0,38400n8
The installation is still going so I'll let you know if it boots after

CentOS 5 on IA64
...t x86 (32 & 64) and IA64 it would be nice to do
this all at once. I know that CentOS 4.5 supports all the platforms
listed, but if it's going to come out soon I'll just wait as it offers
my users a lot more in terms of packages and support.
BTW: Anyone out there have CentOS on SGI Altix?

Migrate from RHAS 4 to CentOS 4.2
I have a SGI Altix 350 (ia64) that came with RHAS 4, but without any
paid support. I would like to migrate the server over to CentOS.
Here is what I've pieced together from some older posts by Johnny,
can someone confirm this should work? I know this is somewhat
covered in the FAQ, although both entrie...

[LLVMdev] Another memory alignment issue with SSE operations
Unfortunately, I've ran into a second issue where addpd is being
performed on memory that isn't 16 byte aligned. Again, this only happens
if the createJIT OptLevel is set to Default (vs None).
According to
http://www.jaist.ac.jp/iscenter-new/mpc/altix/altixdata/opt/intel/vtune/doc/users_guide/mergedProjects/analyzer_ec/mergedProjects/reference_olh/mergedProjects/instructions/instruct32_hh/vc8a.htm
that will cause a GPF.
I've attached the LLVM IR and a copy of the Disassembly this results in.
The crash occurs at 00370872

I just run the "configure" and then "make". The system information is as follows:

I re-run the compling process on my own PC (AMD XP 2000+ with redhat linux 9) and got no problem at all ...
almost hang my neck on that as I need to move all my work to that supercluster

Old HP Xeon server blade with only SCSI HDD ports & CentOS
Hi there.
I got myself a pair of old Intel Xeon blades, which I plan to
repurpose with CentOS.
The model is : HP bl20p-g3 server blade

Now, the main problem with this hardware is that LVD UW SCSI HDDs are
hard to find and hella expensive if you find em (and of reduced
capacity).
Any of you know:

...ub-version numbers is wrong; and ...
That is a matter of opinion. In my opinion, assigning sub-version
numbers to what was originally intended to be, by Red Hat, quarterly
updates (almost Service Packs, if you will, much like SGI's numbering of
their Foundation and ProPack products for the Altix server line) is what
is illogical. Of course, the updates aren't quarterly any more, and
other aspects of the versioning have morphed and changed over the years
since the RHAS days (well, even back in certain branches of RHL 6.2, for
that matter).
So you could read '7.1' as 'v...

Hey, James, go get a cookie, a cup of hot tea, and relax a
spell....maybe fire up the old Altix box for a space heater and get nice
and toasty warm or something....
Sysadmins are still around; the areas in which sysadmins are needed and
the skills sysadmins need to have are just changing, that's all. TV
repairmen still exist; their skillset just is very different today than

Admins supporting both RHEL and CentOS
...both?
I can't really speak for anyone else, but for me, a lot depends on the
use of the systems. I typically treat RHEL and CentOS the same way as
far as updating to the latest point release. It's never bit me in the
past that I am aware of.
The only exception to that is with the SGI Altix 4300/4400s I used to
manage. We migrated from SLES to RHEL and in those cases, barring a
serious enough bug, those boxes were left alone until time came to
refresh them, such as the move from RHEL5 to RHEL6.
