on doing a make I get the following errors below.
I did try the alsa mailing list first... All I got there was it worked

Any ideas on why the utils compile is failing. drivers and libs worked fine.
THanks,

Cookbook receipe for SCSI tape install requested.
I need to install an HP Surestore dlt on a Centos 4 machine and I
am at a loss as to how to proceed. Can someone either provide or
point me to an online reference on how to proceed to add and
configure a SCSI adapter and tape drive. I have read, but not
really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle
this?

Newbie with problems on Debian Sarge
I have a Debian Sarge box that I am trying to get icecast2 and ices2 up and
running on. I'm having problems, but do not know where to look to identify the
problem.
I have my audio working with ALSA - microphone in plays through my audio out.
I'm running a basic configuration using the defaults provided, and the ALSA
example config file for ices.
When I try to connect to the server using

Asterisk won't play anything to the cli console but anything else on the
box can play fine.

ALSA. I used alsactl to reset the mixer controls as it was muted by
default. I'm running CentOS 4.1, I don't remember the kernel version
right off and I don't have access to that box here, I'll check it from
work tomorrow.

RealTek 8168B (Rev 02) Issue
The 8168B (02) NIC works well except that it does not go into promiscuous
mode despite advertising itself in that mode after being so directed with
ifconfig. Unfortunately, the little box is destined to be an IDS monitor, so that
function is essential. The board is an Intel Atom 330 run as x86_64, the nic
is
internal.
We tried three drivers: the one in the 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 kernel yields

How can I disable sound?
..."saving mixer settings". So, I suspect there's some problem with the
onboard sound or with the driver that gets used from X.
How's the best way to cope with this? I don't really need sound, how to
disable (short of disabling it on the mainboard)?
I already commented out the alsactl stuff in modprobe.conf, but this
doesn't change anything and the snd_* modules still get loaded. According
to modprobe it thinks it's Intel 8x0 while it is an nforce2 chipset. Well,
this may be okay for the kernel, I don't know. Can I disable using sound

VM migration upon shutdown in centos 7
Hi,
I have CentOS 7, two node system which allows live VM migration between
them. Live migration triggered from virsh is happily happening. I am using
GlusterFS for replicating VM disk files.
Now I want to automatically do the live migration at the time of
reboot/shutdown/halt of the host node and for this I have written a systemd
service unit [vPreShutdownHook.service] and placed the live

Problem with Centos & Alsa on reboot
...settings are loaded OK
/var/lib/alsa/asound.state
seems to have the right permissions, and I can find no errors in any logs.
My fix is to run a script from /etc/rc.local which runs on restart and
sends me an email
--------------snip-----------------
#! /bin/bash
date > /home/rd/soundset.log
alsactl restore
cat /home/rd/soundset.log |mail -s 'sound set ' your at email.com
exit 0
--------------snip-----------------
It's either Centos or Alsa.
Did not have this in earlier systems.

Robert

I understand that a daemon continually runs, waiting for an event and
then acts in some way in response, but it has to mean something more in
this context. Anyone familiar with the internals of this?

some kind of master record volume. I have an SBLive and on my card, the
control is called Capture and I currently have it at about 40%. Where you
should have it will depend on the strength of your input signal.
If you change anything and it subsequently works, don't forget to run
"alsactl store" as root to save your settings so they are reloaded next
time you boot the system.
Hope this helps.
