source for a yum applet. I know I can build this for myself, but I was
wondering what others on this list think and whether such an applet
should be more widely available to the general CentOS audience. Can I
go ahead and build this for my system? TIA for your answers.

Printing problem
...success. The funny thing is that an app such as gedit
does print. (I'm guessing it's because gedit uses some sort of a2ps ->
lpr combination). I have an Epson Stylus C82 connected via a USB cable
and my system is running CUPS. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks so much.

Configuring a Kodak EZ200 Webcam in CentOS 4.3

that includes a spec file which I can certainly use to build an rpm.
(Mind you, I just don't want to "break" my system or anything like that,
although I would really like to get some use out of this webcam). Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Installing el3 packages on CentOS 4
Is it possible to install el3 packages on CentOS 4? I'm wondering
because there are some packages on dag (for example ac3dec) that are
built for el3 and not for el4. Is it better to rebuild the source rpm?
Thanks.

Scheduling tasks using cron...
Hi all. Can anyone help me with scheduling tasks? I'm running
Centos4.2 (updated via yum starting from 4.0). I know I have vixie-cron
and anacron packages installed (came like that, from first install, I
guess). I read the crontab syntax man page (man 5 crontab) and I made
an entry as a normal user (using crontab -e) that looks like the following:
30 0 9 1 1 /bin/ls -F /home/jose >

ATRpms repo question...
Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with
great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and
Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many
posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS
compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that
matter!) My question applies to the

Compiling kernel 2.6.12.2 with gcc-3.4.3-22.1
Hi. I just have a quick question that maybe some of you might know.
I'm thinking of compiling a new kernel (kernel 2.6.12.2) for my system
which is running CentOS 4 (updated to 4.1 using yum). I downloaded the
kernel tarball and read in the docs that for stability gcc 2.95.x (x>=3)
might be best to compile the new kernel. With an "rpm -q gcc" command I
see that I have

nautilus ogg preview and sox mp3 support
...(*.mp3) files (I had to recompile sox for this to work), but not
ogg files.
On another note, I take it that recompilation of the sox source rpm
(with libmad-devel and lame-devel rpms installed) is the "right" way of
making sox support mp3 format. Am I wrong? Thanks.

Quick crontab question (another cron question!)
Really quickly: Would anyone know how I might add a crontab entry via a
script (bash)? I'm attempting to write one to schedule commands at
certain times. Is this possible? Thanks.

Printing from apps as a regular user...
Hi. I mostly use my system as a super-user and so I can mostly do
everything without worrying too much about permissions. Not too long
ago I created a "general" user account which is automatically logged in
after a few seconds for others to have (limited) access to the system.
Mostly everything works (ie. CD/DVD writing, sound, floppy access,
etc.) But when it comes to printing, only

Previewing oggvorbis files in GNOME...
Hi. I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me a little help trying
to figure something out: I presently am running CentOS4.1 with GNOME as
my desktop (It runs quite well, I must say!). I just have a little
curiosity: I have a few audio files (.wav, .mp3 and .ogg) and I like to
"preview" them. When run my mouse over the .wav files (and mp3 files)

Compiling kernel-2.6.13...
Hi. I'm trying to use CentOS4.2 for some audio work (ie. sound editing,
etc.). I found a site called PlanetCCRMA
(http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/) and decided that I
would give some of their applications a try (hoping that it would not
affect my system greatly!).
At first I tried the Fedora 3 packages (and they do work), but what I
really wanted to do is to download the
