Image conversion with ImageMagick doesn't work on CentOS, but it works fine on Debian Lenny.
I recently came across the need to convert jpg images with IM, did a standard install of "yum -y install ImageMagick" and found that images converted with CentOS's base port of IM would actually corrupt the images, yet using the same (albiet different version, different distro) software didn't corrupt the images at all. By corrupted, I mean, the bottom portion of the image under *some* webservers looked completely wrong, and had strange checkering of the image in stripes across the bottom. At the time I had this problem, I took t...

Is 2.2.3/4 as reliable as 2.0.10?
I've been using 2.0.x on my servers for a couple of years & am a very, very happy customer (thanks Samba team). There are only 2, albiet small, annoyances. 1) Any account administration results in changes having to be made on both the NT domain & linux server. 2) I can't do permissions for a "group of groups" on the linux server. It seems that winbind might be able to resolve the 1st issue certainly, and possibly t...

For example i can generate xml with minimal memory/devices needs to be present.. -- Vasiliy Tolstov, e-mail: v.tolstov@selfip.ru jabber: vase@selfip.ru

ridiculous slow gigabit transfer, faster with VNC
...ween a D-Link DGS-1008D switch and a Netgear GS105 switch with no difference. Since the FTP is very consistently acheiving 50megabytes/sec, I don't think it can be blamed on a hardware fault. However the problem doesn't appear to be just samba either, as the slowness also occurs with scp, albiet scp is much more consistent at 5mb/sec than samba varying at 1GB/142min to 1GB/3min with VNC open. Is this problem something to do with TCP stacks playing up? What else might it be? Thanks

redistribute virtual machines from vps hosting to end users
Hi. I need to get ability to download backups of kvm virtual machines (raw images) to end users. Virtualbox users can import ovs images, that i can create, but in case of linux and virt-manager - how users can import images and simply run it? I think about newbie linux users, that can install virt-manager under ubuntu via graphical package manager and do some easy steps... Can you share me info

long delay
There seems to be a long delay from wen I speak into the mic on a broadcast server and when I hear the speaking on the users end. Can anyone explain this? I am using the latest versions of ices and icecast. Ices is on a different server that icecast and at another location. Thanks --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. long delay
...s and > icecast. Ices is on a different server that icecast and at another > location. There's delay in several parts of the system. First, ices needs to delay (buffer) so that it can encode the information and get it out. Next there's delay in getting it to the Icecast server, albiet not very much, then there's a small delay in the Icecast server itself, then there's delay getting it to the listener, and finally their local media player will delay playing for a prebuffer. Most broadcasts I've done have been around 5-6 seconds delayed. Online radio is designed...

SSH using Keys, no password and SFTP?
HI All, I have setup (and it was so easy) using SSH with keys instead of password authentication. I want to turn password authentication off completely. What I dont understand is how SFTP would work them. I dont see any settings in my FTP clients to use SFTP without providing a password. If that is the case, that is fine since the FTP users have no real privileges except to their own web

I don't think `virt-install` itself can import an XML (although, it can print a XML via the '--print-xml' option, look up the...

icecast2/libshout2 and MP3 metadata
...through the mailing list archives about the status of MP3 support in icecast2 and libshout and haven't seen anything on the recently, So I dove into the sources and see that things are a little farther along that last mentioned here. icecast2 appears to be able to stream MP3 files just fine, albiet without metadata. libshout also appears to handle MP3 files. Good. I was able to make both of these work without too much trouble. What I didn't find yet was Shout.pm for libshout2, so I made one. I kept backward compatibility with Shout.pm 1.0 as much as possible, but of course the who...

Compiling for Windows
Hello OpenSSH devs, I'm hoping this is the proper forum for this question, but if not maybe some kind soul could point me in the right direction. I've been tasked with maintaing a Windows application that currently, or will need to, make use of the following tools: ? ssh-keygen ? ssh ? sshd ? sftp I know there are a few packages out there already CopSSH being one of them (which does

status2.xsl info...
Quick thought, if the fields are separated by "," & a title/artist/.. has a comma in it then it causes a few problems with parsing. Likewise if there are multiple streams it might be nice to have each stream in it's own line so it is easier to grab the info. Also, status.xsl displays streams even after they have been stopped. dmz --- >8 ---- List archives:

remote port forwarding unstable
Hi, I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, maybe someone noticed it also... I always do a remote port forwarding with openssh on 1026 port let's say ( ssh -R 1026:localhost:55555 ). Most times the port is opened on remote machine. But sometimes i notice that ssh can't do remote port forwarding to that port 1026. I looked on the remote machine (netstat -an) and no one is using that

Vista password being rejected on share security mode
I'm working on trying to get Samba 3.0.23c to work with Vista and I've run into a snag. If a share is set up for security = share, and protected with a password, when I try to mount the share using Start->Run->\\server\share, the password is rejected by Samba for about the first 10 seconds, but after that, it lets me in. I've tried all the common suggestions such as changing

Bootable Floppy w/ Networking & Shell?
I realize this is probably the wrong list but since some of the principals this list deals with are similar in nature I figured it could't hurt. What I am looking to do: Provide a solution to either boot from a floppy disk, establish a network connection, give user the ability to run utilities such as fdisk and dd. as well as provide the same solution as a PXE bootable image. connection timeout
...e desirable to wait a shorter period of time. So this limits the time per connection attempt to the lesser of ConnectionTimeout, and the kernel timeout for a socket in SYN_SENT state. The patch is against the portable ssh, because I run linux, but it applies to the current version of ssh as well, albiet with some fuzz and offsets. I have also not patched ssh.0 because it appears to be a generated file, and my troff must work differently from whoever generated it. I'm thinking I might add a command line option to parse another config file after the defaults, mabye even instead of the user'...

OggPCM version / header finalization
I have OggPCM (as currently defined) support implemented in mencoder and mplayer. I'd like to request that we settle on modifications to this header by the middle of next week or freeze the current header as the official major version 1.0, so I can get the patches cleaned up and released. We will be shipping a separate product based on this work in the near-term future, and compatability

"Pursuit of Happiness" ? Are you sure ?
I always kind of liked this title (the title of Davids super Rails presentation), but then I saw this quote today: "The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you''ll never find it." by C.P Snow I''d have to agree with this quote. It''s the same as love... go looking for it, and you''ll never find it. Soooo... David,
