Slow XP -> Samba 3 (but not FTP etc)
...e most odd thing about this is that the poor performance started happening
during a copy operation: 10GB were copied in a few minutes, then the connection
ran slow and has run slow ever since.

am using it in combination with rails apps that need a lot of file
uploads or need to serve some dynamic pages faster then rails will
allow. Right now Merb performs very well for a dynamic ruby framework
thanks to mongrel being very fast when it doesn''t have the Rails
Albatross ? on its back. Serving a dynamic templated page thru merb
routing and controller with 10 ActiveRecord objects being listed out
in the view, merb clocks in at 400req/sec on my macbook and a bit
better on a real server. Static files are served as fast as mongrel can.

Data manager in a Spatial Ecology lab, Univ Florida, Fort Lauderdale FL
...primary mission of the Data Manager will be to manage the group's
database system: we run a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database system on a Linux
server, which hosts telemetry data on wood storks, sea turtles, raccoons,
and associated GIS layers. In the near future, we will be adding advanced
data from albatrosses, including accelerometers and infrasound. The Data
Manager will manage the database server (database design, manual and
automated data entry, metadata, set permissions for users and groups,
backups, development of web apps to access and display data, etc.).

Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
...**What about c2d4u?**
Excellent question.
**Stopping support for Hardy and Oneiric**
Both Hardy (8.04) and Oneiric (11.10) are ending support in April 2013.
Therefore, I will not be updating any version of R for these releases.
I, for one, am happy to finally be able to rid myself of the albatross
(or should I say heron) that is Hardy. I will not delete these files
for a while, but there will be no further updates. Support for Lucid
(10.04) will continue until April 2015 or until something becomes very
broken.
**Are you sure you don't have anything to say about c2d4u?**

The quality with which we maintain the C API today suggests that we
collectively think of it as an albatross to be suffered. There is work
necessary to change that perception too.
I think that one way of ensuring that they don’t have an excuse to do
it is to flesh out some things:

[LLVMdev] LLVM as a shared library
Hello LLVM community,
Over the last few years the LLVM team here at Apple and development teams elsewhere have been busily working on finding new and interesting uses for LLVM. Some of these uses are traditional compilers, but a growing number of them aren’t. Some of LLVM’s new clients, like WebKit, are embedding LLVM into existing applications. These embedded uses of LLVM have their own unique
