Sorry if this has been dealt with, but I couldn't find it in a search. I updated Fedora to the new kernel build, and there are no current drivers for nvidia cards for that. That's fine, livna made a new neat thing called akmod-nvidia that appears to have built the drivers very nicely (quite pleased with that). All is happy and shiny from within Linux (compiz works and openGL games work well). WINE, however, does not work with anything requiring openGL. ...an reboot and edit the kernel commandline to add "edd=off" at the end then it comes up all the way. I haven't made any changes in the Nvidia drivers, because nvidia's web site tells me it uses the same driver as the 9800GT card did. I'm using the RPMs from elrepo, so it uses akmod to do a rebuild when a new kernel is installed. But I didn't install a new kernel, so it didn't get rebuilt, and I'm wondering if that's the cause of the problem... different card works with the same driver version but may need recompiling due to the different hardware ????? ...see, it takes ages to run because it actually compiles the kernel module.) When booted, this guest has the zfs.ko kmod installed (and the tools). It's hard to give general instructions since almost any conceivable kernel module would need to be compiled, and that would inevitably involve dkms/akmod, which means using an out-of-tree/out-of-distro install method similar to the one above. I installed the elrepo kmod-nvidia and also the nvidia-detect and modules (see below). I had X working with the 3.10 from Centos - but video was freezing. SO I thought I would try the elrepo kernel. I installed that and X does not come up? How do I re-make the nvidia module for 4.14.5 kernel? I want to make sure the kmod kernel did it. I 'm thinking it did not. lspci | grep VGA says

...e mplayer full screen it loose frames and after few seconds it stop. If I use mplayer with a windows size bigger than the native avi dimension (say 1400x900) it freezes also. I also tested with another monitor size (1400x1050) and mplayer also stop. (The problem is that the NVIDIA driver and the akmod-nvidia frezes with my system and nv cannot use more than one video!)
