pearson's correlation
Hello, I used the function cor to calculate the pearson correlation coefficient between variables. However, the resulting values do not correspond to the outcome of my excel-calculations, for which I used the formula Cor(x,y)=Cov(x,y)/(SD(x)*SD(y)) So my question is: How does the function "cor" compute the pearson correlation coefficient? Thank you in advance, Ake Nauta

Dear all, my colleague (a statistician - not yet using R) aked me, if there is a R package comparable to the software "PASS" (Power Analysis and Sample Size Procedures), comprising about 150 procedures. I found the R package "pwr". Are there other (more comprehensive) power analysis packages? Many thanks! Udo

openssh-1.2pre15 on AIX
Hi. Pre15 compiles out-of-the-box on AIX 4.3.2 ...almost. No patch included this time, but the following were the gotchas: - The __P() prototyping doesn't work (as discussed earlier) - bsd-daemon.o wasn't linked into libssh.a (though configure seemed to detect the need for it) DCE patch will follow shortly. Specifying relative position of text in a plot
What is the simplest way to specify the location of text in a scatter plot (created using the plot function) in relative terms rather than specific x-y coordinates? For example, rather than putting text at (300,49) on a plot, how do I put it 1/10 of the way over from the y axis and 1/2 of the way up from the x axis? Thanks. Tom -- View this message in context:

Multiple options for a package
...ropose to the user is somewhat big (and could easily increase more and more as I will code up a little more - even coming to a point where an user should be able to implement his own options). What we have to handle options is the couple: options(par=value) and getOption("par") I was aking myselft what would be the "better" strategy to handle a bunch of options for a package. I ended up with the idea of storing a list, as my options would also be classified, with something like: -- MyPkgOptions = list(set1=list(par1=1,par2=2),set2=list(subset1=list(par1=11,par2=22),sub...
