Did I miss a meeting?!
I''ve just stumbled (literally, while I was trying to fix a glitch I
was having after upgrading Aegis...) on the Inherited Resources gem...
why did no-one tell me?! ;-)
Is everyone else using some form of controller base-class? Am I the
last on this bus!

Apart from using CVS as a client (as everyone does), I've only ever used
Aegis (previous employer, for ~3 years) and Perforce (the employer
before that, though ever since then I've been using the 'free' license
for personal stuff.) I've tinkered a bit with some of the shiny new V-C
systems.
Well, to put things bluntly, Aegis was a complete and total disast...

Has anyone read "Recursive Make Considered Harmful"?

I have been using single top level Makefiles (and automake Makefile.am)
for some time. For me they are far more reliable and maintainable. I have
not yet tried CMake.
For a large project using a single top level Makefile see the Linux
kernel sources.

[LLVMdev] Version Control Upgrade?
LLVMers,
The oversight group has been kicking around the idea of getting a better
version control system than CVS. The problem is, we're not quite sure
what "better" means. So, we thought we'd ask your opinions.
If you're interested in this topic (and you should be if you're actively
developing), please have a look at this site:

Fix list so it adds Reply-To: header
Could whomever is in charge of the lartc mailing list please change it
to add the header:
Reply-To: lartc@mailman.ds9a.nl
Every other list I''m on is setup so that by default replies will go to
the list. When replying to lartc emails I notice myself and others
constantly forgetting this list does not behave like the rest, and
that we have to either do a reply-to-all, or manually enter in

Mobile Device Options
Hello,
I'm looking to use tinc. What are my options for connecting from a mobile device, e.g. iPhone/iPad or a droid?
Is there any backwards compatibility with IPSec or PPTP or anything? Or would it be possible to implement a solution where a pptp vpn is bridged to the tinc vpn so clients can 'see' other clients on either network?
Thanks,
Adam

Advice on Samba for large site
Hi,
I've been asked to research the possibility of changing our site from
Novell to Samba. We've got 10,000+ client machines with about 30,000
users and currently use about 200-300 novell servers. I'm reasonably
familiar with Samba but not on this scale. If anyone can point me
towards a similar site then I'd be grateful.
Currently we have a accouting system for each user for

Here's the idea - there's a lot of information you *could* put into
an hcalendar item, but the most common in emails I've gotten is date/
description/location, so I tried to find a simple way to support that:

[LLVMdev] Is there room for another build system?
[Repost: The mailing list was down yesterday. Sorry if this is a
duplicate]
I'm evaluating CMake (1) primarily as an alternative build system for
Visual Studio users, although it can easily be a replacement for
`configure' and hand-made makefiles too, providing a single build system
for all platforms. CMake is a tool that takes a project description and
configures, generates makefiles,

IP Tables on a bridge
Not normally a question for this group, but you guys are very
bridge/router/firewall savvy, so I thought I''d toss it here.
I have a bridge. On one side of the bridge is that fancy thing called the
Internet. On the other side is my LAN. The bridge is the obvious
demarcation line and a good place to put a firewall.
Now, I have all my iptables stuff planned out, EXCEPT for nat.

On x86 CPUs, "long double" is 80 bits.

Multi-platform Legacy System Software Development: Using a combination
of commercial Linux cross-compilers (Concurrent PLDE), remotely accessed

custom scripting, and a little ingenuity, we continue to modify and
maintain real-time simulation systems that are decades old as well as
the latest Linux-based training systems. Even software support for MS
based training systems are managed on the same RHEL (and soon CentOS)
