vmware player 12.5.7 with CentOS 7.4
hi all - anyone find a way to get vmware player 12.5.7 working with 7.4? Thanks - everything good with the upgrade except that. Great job CentOS team! Jerry starting vmplayer I get the following: Note: adwaita is installed. canberra is installed No idea what pk is ? vmplayer (vmware-modconfig:12595): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "adwaita", /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-2.0/main.rc:733: error: unexpected identifier `direction', expected character `}' (...

Clearlooks-phenix also works fine with the latest C7/Mate and looks more like a "traditional" Gnome 2 desktop. yum install clearlooks-phenix-gtk2-theme clearlooks-phenix-gtk3-theme Go to the look and feel preferences setting on your desktop and select Clearlo...

Centos 8 Mate?
...ginal process with MATE before trying the same approach with Xfce? The good news is that I got the same results but with Xfce.? One different tweak to get around some additional conflicts between Fedora 28 Xfce and CentOS 8 Gnome: yum groupinstall "Xfce" --skip-broken --exclude "*adwaita-gtk2-theme*" yum groupinstall "Xfce Desktop" --skip-broken --exclude "*adwaita-gtk2-theme*" --exclude"*logos*" Also, I skipped the step analogous to: yum install mate* -x mate*devel* -x mate-menu since it seemed to be redundant with doing the group installs.? CentOS 7 + GNOME : all icon themes broken after update from CR
Hi, I just upgraded one of my CentOS 7 + GNOME desktops from the CR repo. After the upgrade, it seems like all of the icon themes are broken. Missing icons everywhere. Any idea what's going on here ? anybody else had this problem since the CR updates?
I'm running Mate on my C7 boxen, a desktop and a netbook.\ Mate comes from epel, so it's probably not a CentOS problem, but lemme ask here in case anybody else has seen it: some tools (nm, pavucontrol, and possibly others I haven't noted down) no longer have the correct formatting on screen. there are no backgrounds, i.e., backgrounds that define areas of the screen by shading or

In Chromium, the buttons and other widget things on the top > are an ugly yellow distortion. Un-intuitive as it may be, you may just need to start using either the Adwaita or Clearlooks-phenix theme. One chap I know of that's using the CERN linux told me that solved a problem similar to yours by using the clearlooks-phenix theme. I use clearlooks-phenix here to solve a different set of problems (menus on Gnome-terminal and Geany), and I don't really like t...

Minimal set of icons and what about missing icons
...d it correct that a theme need to offer a minimal set of icons specified here: https://specifications.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec But most themes do offer much more as this set. But they are not consistent. For example see "system-users". Looking in my Debian 12 with XFCE4 I see Adwaita, gnome, HighContrast and Tango do offer that icon. Even them do not offer it in all resolutions. When I use that icon by its name in an application (e.g. Qt-based) but the current used Theme do not offer "system-users" what is the intended behavior? The background is I don't want...

gtk3 update causing havoc
On my lab systems, the automatic updates were failing because of the problems with ipod libraries from EPEL being in the way. It turns out that was a good thing, because when I "fixed" it, a massive set of packages was updated, including the new gtk3. These packages are the ones causing problems, I think. gtk3-3.22.10-4.el7.x86_64 gtk3-devel-3.22.10-4.el7.x86_64 In the release notes,

[Bug 55310] New: incorrect rendering of some borders in certain gtk3 themes
...Component: Driver/nouveau Product: xorg Created attachment 67669 --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=67669&action=edit Screenshot showing the problem When using a gtk3 theme that uses "border-image" with the "stretch" as repeat mode (such as Adwaita, the default theme), gtk3 uses cairo to scale the image. When using the "image" backend of cairo everything looks as expected. Using the X backend on a "intel" driver should work as well (as I'm told). But using the "nouveau" driver gives some fading out borders....
