Jones had 4 levels of nesting tested with the 'supernested' program[1] he wrote. (Related aside: This program is packaged it as part of 2016 QEMU Advent Calendar[2] -- if you want to play around on a powerful test machine with tons of free memory.) simple parallel computing on single multicore machine
Dear List, the advent of multicore machines in the consumer segment makes me wonder whether it would, at least in principle, be possible to divide a computational task into more slave R processes running on the different cores of the same processor, more or less in the way package SNOW would do on a cluster. I am thinki...

PRI dead in USA?
...how much it would cost to install a BRI here. Although the rates were reasonable (except the installation), I got the distinct impression that they really didn't want to install BRI's. Their comments were "well, BRI is getting quite antiquated", and the like. They said with the advent of ADSL, there's not much of a market anymore, as most of past usage was modem related. I'm a little worried about the pricing going up, and availability going down in the near future. I don't have the volume yet to justify PRI. What are other's experience in the US with BRI? Al...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. dinput patches for Wine 1.4
...had been using - http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15638&action=diff&context=patch&collapsed=&headers=1&format=raw Recently mr_lundis posted a revised version of this patch which is very nearly working....in fact it does work for certain games (ie F.E.A.R. Platinum & Advent Rising) Unfortunately when used for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the results are not as desirable. The mouse becomes locked on the ground and will not warp correctly. Here is a link to the revised patch - https://gist.github.com/1958584 Basically I'm wondering if someone here has a keen enough eye or know...

Populating form elements with AJAX
Hi All! Is it possible to populate a form (or certain elements) with the shipped AJAX library? When using link_to_remote it seems that only innerHTML of a DOM element can be updated, but I would like to set the value of a text field (or perhaps multiple). Greetings, Wouter -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

some clarity Re: HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
I'd note that the mkisofs man page listed about a dozen different formats used in various contexts to store Mac resource forks and finder metadata in various contexts. I'd imagine the advent of MacOSX (with UFS support) has narrowed the field of what options are common somewhat, but it's an area where a lot of ad-hoc solutions made it out to the real world. On the other hand, the mkisofs source might be a useful source of code fragments for dealing with related issues. -- Alb...

Packages in R & Java
Yes, lots of packages do use C/Fortran code ... it would be great if there were more packages that are "pure R" especially since the advent of S4 classes and namespaces. Is it worth suggesting that we create a designation "pure R" for packages that have no external source code and encourage more of these? Indeed, now the number of packages is so big could they be classified to aid potential users? Going back to the original...

Dovecot / Sieve
Hi, As the "new Sieve implementation" is using a "gratefully stolen copy of deliver.c from dovecot" (i.e. a dirty code in mail-raw.c), would it be possible for the Sieve piece 1 - to be using files from dovecot directly rather than copying&changing it (which is very bad for maintenance) 2 - to be incorporated in the hg/mercurial tree of dovecot ? Thanks a lot

CentOS7 changes strike again.
...rver Xlib: No protocol specified ERROR: Failed to open display: :0.0 tried setting selinux to permissive mode - still no joy. All this just worked with my old CentOS6 laptop and work station, however I no longer have access to that. I guess there have been some "improvements" with the advent of gnome3 that now prevent this from working, however my knowledge of how this rdesktop interacts with the local display manager are sketchy at best. Any suggestions from those of you that understand this stuff way better than I do? TIA Rob

Error: Rate Limiting only available with ACCEPT, DNAT[-], REDIRECT[-] and LOG
I think it would be nice to be able to rate limit an action, too.. suppose I have an action named Accept_good_source : ACCEPT - - tcp - 1024:65535 ACCEPT - - udp - 1024:65535 and that i want to use it in an action called AllowCVS, i can''t limit the cvs usage, but only the general use of Accept_good_source... same goes for userset... as each rule will give one iptables command, I

is a self signed certificate always invalid the first time?
I have looked at let's encrypt. Key issue for me is having to add a lot python stuff that would otherwise not be on any server. Again, All CA's like "Let's Encrypt" - and others that are accepted by the "majors", e.g., Windows, Mozilla make it much easier for the "random" user to use anything you protect with SSL (better TLS) without them having to

metadata on the wiki
The biggest problem with Vorbis comments are too loose specifications and too little standardisation. Another problem is attribution of involved parties. Currently only the ARTIST field name is supported in software. More standardised field names need to be worked out for organisations and persons involved in the production of the recording. See:

[LLVMdev] FW: A message to post please (EDITED, thanks): "Position available: C / C++ Developer: Compiler & Tools SDK"
...Successful proof of concept and ongoing commitments from major customers has created an innovative new C / C++ Developer role within an emerging business with considerable expertise, strong market opportunity and radically effective products. Advances in modern computer hardware, particularly the advent of multi-core and parallel computing CPU / GPU architectures has created a significant issue for organisations and software development professionals, and in turn a strong market opportunity: analysing application code performance, re-engineering and optimising the code to take advantage of today’s...
