I've got a book from O'reilly wich is told to be the official. It says, this thing can be done by using the 'addtosmbpass' awk script. But I haven't got such. Not if I use debian's apt-get to install samba, nor when I install it from source. In addition, system users will be removed, as well as any accounts that are no longer valid (ie. removed Unix accounts that are still in smbpasswd). You will need the 'addtosmbpass' script, and it is assumed that your original password file was created with the 'makesmbpasswd.sh' script. Except that I am a little confused, when I installed Samba not all of the components were installed correctly, when I try to run the following executibles it tells me that they don't exist; addtosmbpass, nmbd, smbd, smbpasswd, smbrun, and smbstatus. Any ideas on what I might've done wrong in my installation? We installed Samba server on a Alphaserver 4000 and we are connecting with a Win NT client Our server name is "ALPHASERVER4000" our client name is "PC3" we arrived to test 10 and problem is still alive. We can see with the NT browser "ALPHASERVER4000" but if we double click on it a password is requested. We tried with Regedit with all this options. Run regedt32.exe
