Samba 3 and Mac OS X Jaguar to authenticate AD2003 users
Hi all
My network is splitted in two parts: windows and macintosh, but all the
usernames/password are on a win2003 server (with active directory, of
course). I'd jusk like to allow authentication on both platforms with a
single username, stored in AD. I read somewhere that OS X Server 10.3
has Samba 3 as a default package installed, but I can't unfortunately
upgrade the OS, so I need some

ad2003 schema while forest/domain at 2008R2 level
Hi everyone,
I came across this issue today while upgrading a samba4 AD. The
forest/domain level is 2008R2, however the schema partition is actually
missing the msDS-isRODC attribute (and probably a few others). It makes
the ADUC console to failed on that entry below. Here is the samba log
message (which is quite explicit :-)

Samba 3.0.7 domain membership with AD2003
hi guys,
I have problems with authentification in a 2003 domain membership
configuration of samba 3.0.7. I'm a newbie in linux systems, then I will
give you my configuration process of the program.
The samba server is installed on a Redhat 9.0 without any base install of
samba, without kerberos and with the open LDAP RPM installed. I follow this
procedure to build binarie from sources

winbind failing with error: resource temporarily unavailable
...eboot of the box, and I can't get the services to start up
again. I'm assuming it's a samba issue and not a squid issue, even though
the last thing tweaked was the squid.conf file.
The box has the following installed RHEL 4, Samba 3.0.21rc2,
squid-2.5.STABLE12.
The box was joined to a AD2003 network, and was sucecssfully authenticating
userids against the AD2003 domain.
Has anyone got any thoughts on where to trace the root of the problem. I've
cleared the .pid files, and I've checked the directory & file permissions.
thanks in advance

smb.conf template homedir
For local login to our samba server, we are using posix information
stored in an openldap directory. - I can log in via shell with no problems.
We are authenticating samba against AD2003. I can attach to the samba
server from both windows and macintosh - just not access my home directory.
Currently, "template homedir = /home/%U" - which results in a path of
/home/<username>
I would like to use the homeDirectory field found in openldap - which is
different for di...

wbinfo -a works but wbinfo -i doesn't
We're in the process of upgrading from 3.2.14 to 3.5.4 on RHEL5.2 in an effort to eliminate frequent complete system pauses when winbindd pulls info from the AD2003 servers. The 3.2.14 packages were removed, 3.5.4 installed, and the previous smb.conf file reinstated.
wbinfo -i works, as do -g -u -t -a -K and -m.
However wbinfo -i doesn't. It returns "Could not get info for user" even though that user shows up in wbinfo -u.
The domain has been jo...

ms-rpc dynamic port range
Hi everyone,
According to the samba wiki page [1], samba ms-rpc dynamic port range is
1024-5000, which looks mostly coherent with a quick tcpdump analysis.
However it seems like there are also some connection in the upper range
or MS-RPC 49152-65535.
It seems that the lower range would be for AD2003 according to kb832017,
and that the upper range would be for AD2008 and up [2].
So my question is, what is the range that is used? Actually, I grep'ing
in the source code was quite unlucky because I didn't even found where
it was defined in samba source code... And I guess there aren...

My Documents Folder Redirection to Samba Share
...a my documents folder under that. How can I get that to
happen with a samba share. Using Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 and
fairly new to samba. The default smb.conf makes mention of %S but also
says that it would need to be tweaked if using different auth schemes.
I am using ads with winbind with AD2003. Everything else works fine.
Thanks,

Migrating domain from Samba 3 to Windows 2003
...ny reason this won't work? Your experiences? Your wisdom?
One final question: Can Exchange 2003 be made to authenticate against a
Samba domain? I would expect not, since a Samba domain is mostly an NT4
equivalent and Exchange 2003 requires a domain at least at AD2000
functional level. Maybe AD2003 functional level.

strange Samba3 / sudo / ldapsearch problem
Hi,
I recently triied to set up a special PDF creation service for a customer. The
Samba3 server is a AD2003 member server. Since the created PDF files
need to be sent via e-mail to the creators, I need to issue an LDAP
query against the AD, like
ldapsearch -h 10.243.50.22 -Y GSSAPI -b "ou=user,ou=... ..." \
-LLL '(cn=lastname firstname*)' mail
As long as I run this command as root e...

Samba problem
Dear Samba,
I have installed Samba 3.022 version on my FreeBSD 6.1 Release version.
Samba installation purpose is to integrate squid authentication
process with AD2003 system. Everything works fine, by mean users
authenticates and get acces to internet. But if I wanna to implement
group access level for users I get trouble with winbindd, so it does
not want to work. The trouble is in invalid request size format. I
have searched internet with this problem but the...

Active Directory LDAP authentication fails after a time
Hi -
I've got Dovecot version 1.0.7 running on a CentOS 5.2 machine. It's
serving pop, imap and imaps and authenticating against an Active Directory
machine. This all works fine at first, but after about two weeks or so,
dovecot's authentication against AD starts to fail. All of dovecot's
authentication attempts time out. I also have postfix on the same machine
authenticating

Dovecot hanging up with many defunct processes
Hi,
I am in a very awkward situation and need some kind of immediate fix up.
I had installed dovecot in my organization as part of migration of email
server. The setup involves sendmail, dovecot (imaps+pop3s) and webmail
(squirrelmail) running on apache webserver. All was working fine until one
day I found a lot of defunct processes on system related to dovecot.
dovecot-auth, imap-login and
