Samba ADS Help
...ord. I did successfully setup winbind, krb5 and samba w/out any
major complications. But when it came to login I investigate as to why I am
not able to log into the linux box using my AD account and password. I used
the following URL example to setup winbind and samba.

winbind error message: krb5_cc_get_principal failed (No such file or directory)
Hello List,
I successfully joined a Suse 9.0 Server with Samba 3.0.6 to a W2K3 DC, following the guide from http://www.wlug.org.nz/ActiveDirectorySamba
My setup seems to work okay, but whenever I start/restart winbind, I get the following message:
[2004/09/24 10:26:54, 1] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(854)
winbindd version 3.0.6-SUSE started.

Getting Samba 3 to communicate with Win2k3 ADS
...r anything fancy, just some decent security by
using the same users/groups between the file server and the domain server,
and some folder shares for each account.
I've done some research on the web, read the Samba HOWTO, the Unofficial
HOWTO, and a paper on this website:
http://www.wlug.org.nz/ActiveDirectorySamba
I'm running a Slackware 10 operating system, removed the original Samba
3.0.4 (wasn't compiled with several required options) package and compiled
Samba 3.0.5 with the correct options (after installing numerous other
libraries such as PAM and OpenLDP).
I've primarily been trying to f...

Kerberos setup is OK. If you get errors, well ... Run that first, then try

Kerberos Tickets renewal
...d.
Probably the best one is about keytabs, which I could generate on The
Windows System, but kerberos does not seem to use them.
Most of the solutions I found are for MIT kerberos, but I use heimdal
(as of SuSE 9.0), where e.g. the hints from new zealand's linux wiki
(http://www.wlug.org.nz/ActiveDirectorySamba) don't work. They tell me
to import the keytab file with
-----------------
% ktutil
ktutil: rkt mail.keytab
ktutil: list
ktutil: wkt /etc/krb5.keytab
ktutil: q
------------------
But this does not work - not with ktutil and not with kadmin.
Perhaps i missed something?
Thanks a lot!!!

Best Practices for rookie
I am interested in setting up Samba file services for our location and I am
looking to find a "Best Practices" approach and configuration for use with
an Active Directory controller. I have had some luck in setup Samba with
local accounts, but Linux will be used increasingly in the months to come
and I would like to build a file server that will validate file system
access against AD

net ads join fails
I am trying to connect to an ADS domain and it is failing all the time.
I am running SuSE Linux 9.0 with Samba 3.0.13 and have configured Samba with ldap and heimdal kerberos
Attached is my debug level 10 error log created when the join is attempted.
I would appreciate any advice on solving this problem.
Thanks in advance

security = ADS
Hi all,
I've been fighting with joining my samba server (debian) to my active directory domain for 4 days now. The problem here is that users in my active directory domain on windows machines are not able to browse my samba shares without being prompted for authentication.
I can:
- Join the domain from samba server using net ads
- View list of tickets when brownsing window shares with

Unable to join ADS domain
I've installed Samba 3.0.2 (from the source) on a SuSE
8.2 system with MIT Kerberos 1.3.1 (I uninstalled the
Heimdal code) and the OpenLDAP 2.1.27 development
libraries installed on it. I want to make this system
a domain member of a Win2K native-mode ADS domain but
can't get "net ads join" to work. I've run "kinit
myid@MYDOMAIN.COM" and I get at ticket, but when
