dvd+rw+r for FreeBSD
I'm not subscribed to this list; but I read that Matthew Dillon has ported the dvd+rw tools to FreeBSD. I just compiled and installed the application; but I can't burn to a DVD+RW on a Sony DRU-500A. command: growisofs -Z /dev/acd0c -rl ./testfile result: ":-( unable to CAMGETPASSTHRU for /dev/acd0c: Inappropriate ioctl for device" The DVD+RW website: http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/tools/ which is for Linux, says that you have to use scsi emulation with ide burners. Is the Sony 500A a scsi device? (Is it...

FreeBSD doesn't find my CD-RW and sometimes my DVD
...in a small partition , and now I have decided to install it in a bigger partition , so I've downloaded the 5.1 ISO (to give it a try too) and I've tried to BURN it with "burncd" . Now, I've noticed that in the DEV directory there are the devices "acd0a" and "acd0c" , I've thought that acd0a was DVD and acd0c was CD-RW... but I was wrong... ACD0 is only the DVD , CD-RW (a Liteon 52x 24x 52x) isn't found at all!! Literally from DMESG: ata0-slave: ATA identify retries excedeed and sometimes it doesn't find my DVD too , with the message :...

X & securelevel=3
...to be to start it before setting the securelevel, but then is doesnt allow a restart of X. the other option seems to be the Aperture patch, ported in 2001 with no recent updates and no longer usable against the current software. 2nd part of the question.. cd writing needs direct access to /dev/<acd0c> and that is also not allowed in secure more. how can one give selective access to only allow (RW) access to one or two devices ? if there is no way of doing these things with configs and such, can anyone point me at the relevant source code that controls these functions so i can add this speci...

cdrom after installing kernel
hi all I have got a little problem- after rebuilding the kernel my CD ROM doesn't work. I thought maybe I had commented something necessary (like CD9660), but even if I change ident and filename from GENERIC to something other after mount /cdrom I get this error: "cd9660: /dev/acd0c: Device not configured " (ofcourse I had put cd into the cdrom ) while using GENERIC kernel everything is all right otherwise device can't be configured...why thanks in advance... marek denis

Mount DVD-RAM - device entry missing
...ated after trying to mount /dev/cd0 instead of /dev/cd0a, but I am not sure if this is the correct behaviour ;-) # ls /dev/acd* /dev/acd0 /dev/acd1 # mount /dev/acd0 /home/hk/mnt/ mount: /dev/acd0 on /usr/home/hk/mnt: incorrect super block ls /dev/acd* /dev/acd0 /dev/acd0a /dev/acd0c /dev/acd0t01 /dev/acd0t01a /dev/acd0t01c /dev/acd1 # mount /dev/acd0a /home/hk/mnt/ works then ok. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Regards, Holger Kipp

Removable media security in FreeBSD
I'm working with a FreeBSD user -- a teacher -- who's running KDE on a system on which she neither has nor wants root privileges. She wants to be able to mount and unmount floppies and ZIP cartridges from within KDE, using the standard KwikDisk utility (which, by the way, generates mount and unmount command that don't conform to FreeBSD syntax; however, it appears possible to fix this

FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.

Again, /usr/src/UPDATING mentions some changes to the ATA code, but nothing specific t...

Audio CD problem on laptop VGN-SZ61MN
Is there anyone out there who has installed FreeBSD on the above Sony laptop ? Both ''cat filename > /dev/dsp0.0'' or ''vlc cdda:///dev/acd0@1 are OK. If I run ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 play'', there is no sound. But the output of ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 status audio'' is alright. (same behaviour for cd0 instead of acd0) And the output
