Building two redundant servers without clustering
Hi,
my Fileserver lately refused to work anymore. I'm quite thankfull for
that for that it was a bit slow anyway ;-)
My idea is to set up two relativley samba-hosts instead of byuing one
"real" server with many build in redundancies. That can only work if I
can manage to keep both filesystems in sync and I see two alternatives:
1.: Use drdb to build a RAID1 across the two

RC1 Zfs writes a lot slower when running X
Hi,
I have OpenSolaris on an Amd64 Asus-A8NE with 2gig of Rams and 4x320 gig sata drives in raidz1.
With dd, I can write at quasi disk maximum speed of 80meg each for a total of 250meg/s if I have no Xsession at all (only console tty).
But as soon as I have an Xsession running, the write speed drops to about 120MB/s.
Its even worse if I hav...

Urgent hardware help needed
Hello all,
First of all, sorry to beg...
If anyone has the ability to get me some specific hardware quickly, this
would be incredibly helpful right now...
The server which runs all my stuff blew its motherboard yesterday, and I
have since replaced the CPU, motherboard, memory, and case.
Unfortunately, the memory appears to be flaky, and it's apparently hard
to find the appropriate type

http://www.f.csce.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~shigeaki//software/freebsd-nfe.html
Before I had the nve driver which was unstable on this server and on a
prior server in both cases causing either spontaneous reboot or just a
crash when under load.
So far touchwood the nfe driver has stayed up and running at almost 3
days uptime and has had some stress.
I know the driver

What is the motivation for choosing nVidia?
Dear developers
I have just noticed your fantastic work, and I am looking forward to
send you dumps of my GeForce 6150, when I get vacation in two weeks.
It is an integrated GPU on my Asus A8N-VM CSM, so I hope it will work.
The reason I post is, I am wondering what the motivation is for doing
nVidia and not ATi?
I have read the "FAQ:Why are you doing this?", but it doesn't

Release 4.4 and MPC51 ethernet controller
When using 4.4 to install on gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2 motherboard
basically an Nforce 410/430 chipset then network is not initially detect to
perform a network install. It let me attempt to manually select a driver
but I
do not see the driver in the list.
After installing the network works and the forcedeth driver is loaded.
Is there a way to get this driver detected or manually loaded?
THanks,

Syslinux 3.83 released
Hi all,
I have just released Syslinux 3.83. Special thanks to my employer,
Intel, for letting me spend time on this.
It is somewhat of a meager release despite four months, as most of the
work has gone into the future-work branches.
-hpa
Changes in 3.83:
* PXELINUX: clear memory before handing over to a chainloaded
NBP. This may help avoid a bug in Windows RIS.

Centos 4.4 install on ASUS A8V-VM does not find SATA drives
Yes, I know someone last week asked a similar question (Problem with ASUS
P5VD2-X X SATA II) but the only answer I saw on that thread was the
equivalent of "I've heard it's bad so I won't do it." Unfortunately, that
doesn't help me much.
The BIOS does indeed recognise my two SATA hard drives, and I've got the
BIOS set to "IDE" (which disables

CF to SATA adapters for boot device
Has anyone here had any luck using a CF to SATA adapter?
I''ve just tried an Addonics ADSACFW CF to SATA adaptor with an 8GB card that I wanted to use for a boot pool and even though the BIOS reports the disk, Solaris B95 (or the installer) doesn''t see it.
I might give the IDE version a go (I really wanted hoT-plug), otherwise I''ll be able to store a couple of thousand

Poor network performance on Dom0 [2.6.18-6-xen-amd64]
I am experiencing poor network performance on Dom0. When i ping other
hosts on the same LAN, packets are out of order, and they show
response times ranging from < 1 ms to several seconds, and some
packets get lost.
For example, a typical ping result looks like this:
87 packets transmitted, 80 received, +3 errors, 8% packet loss, time 86038ms
