properly check for _DSM function support and Optimus support for vga_switcheroo
Hello guys, I've prepared a patch based on my findings for the bbswitch module (https://github.com/Lekensteyn/acpi-stuff/tree/master/bbswitch). This adds a proper check whether a _DSM function is supported or not and make OFF / ON for vga_switcheroo work for nVidia Optimus models. The patch is based against the mainline kernel. It has been tested on my Clevo B7130 laptop running kernel 3.2 which has a GT425M dGPU: # cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch 0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00...

[PATCH 1/1] drm/nouveau: Use generic helper to check _PR3 presence
Replace nouveau_pr3_present() in favor of a more generic one, pci_pr3_present(). Also the presence of upstream bridge _PR3 doesn't need to go hand in hand with device's _DSM, so check _PR3 before _DSM. [PATCH RFC] nouveau: Add support for Gmux _DSM method
This patch certainly needs some more work, but I'd like to get some comments. Not sure if it is really related to the gmux or if it is a different Optimus _DSM version. I tested it on my laptop (MCP79/7A + G96) and the G96 successfully goes to sleep, however it is still marked as PWR in vga_switcheroo, despite `vga_switcheroo_set_dynamic_switch(pdev, VGA_SWITCHEROO_OFF)` being called. --- drm/nouveau_acpi.c | 94 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

Bug or not?
Hi Evan! Sorry for taking so long before answering... Thanks for the greps! It appears you have a newer version of apple_gmux than I have, so let's see if something also changed in the _DSM method. Could you please run - as root - `acpidump -b -n DSDT` which will create a file named dsdt.dat containing the DSDT table, and then run `iasl -d dsdt.dat` and send me the resulting dsdt.dsl file? That way I will have the uuid, the available functions and their version for your _DSM method....
