Cross-Machine COM-Calls under Wine...
...small COMRequsest per second, stressed from multiple Clients (XP-Box, comparable Hardware, reached ca. 2000). So Wine has ca. 3 times the Call-Overhead, regarding Object-Instantiation and Method-Invoking-By-Name. But the more realistic Recordset-Call was finished after 14ms, where the XP-Box needed 9ms - so for realistic Calls, we now see only factor 1.5 under Wine. And in the "Large-String- Reflection-Test" (2MB Up- and 4MB-Download) - Wine was a little bit faster than XP - good job, regarding your socket-bindings. Minimizing to the "KDE-SysTray", all was working, I was impre...

Drawing thread not getting enough time from scheduler?
Need some assistance with animation again... When I run the drawing code in a separate thread, it''s slow as heck. I think it may be because the drawing thread isn''t getting enough time from the thread scheduler. I was able to reproduce the problem in my little sample program simply by increasing the number of lines it draws per update. I''m lucky to get one frame

The effects of queueing on delay
I have a router with 3 network interfaces like in the following ASCII diagram below. All interfaces are 100mbit. There is tcp traffic being sent from net1 to net3 and from net2 to net3 and the tcp connections consume as much bandwidth as possible. There is a pfifo queue on the egress interface eth0 of the core router with a limit of 10 packets. net1 --> (eth1) router (eth0) -> net3

Digium G729 licensing - is it worth the trouble?
I have been impressed with the quality and meagre bandwidth of the G729 codec from Digium. I am in a testing phase of our roll out, we are using 5 Asterisk PBXs in various countries to provide connectivity for our employees, owners and family. As we are testing, and our setup is somewhat complex due to the peculiarities of our connectivity, there has had to be a lot of changes to servers, cards to
