E-mail validtor??
Does anyone have a good working e-mail validator? or even some regexp to make the validates_format_of work right... that would be awesome. Also, maybe an online tutorial for regexp. i''ve always been afraid of it but i think it''s time to face the fears. thanks! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Optimizing grep, sort, uniq for speed
This snippet of code pulls an array of hostnames from some log files. It has to parse around 3GB of log files, so I'm keen on making it as efficient as possible. Can you think of any way to optimize this to run faster? HOSTS=() for host in $(grep -h -o "[-\.0-9a-z][-\.0-9a-z]*.com" ${TMPDIR}/* | sort | uniq); do HOSTS+=("$host") done

rsync stalls at .sparsebundle directories on OS X‏‏
Hi. I try to make backups from one disk to another. I have .sparsebundle[1] directories on the source drive (/Volumes/data/). When rsync reaches the first .sparsebundle it stalls and stays there until i ctrl+c. I'm using OS X Yosemite and rsync version 3.1.1 protocol version 31 installed via homebrew. However, I had this problem on OS X Lion too using rsync 3.0.9. Actually, the reason I

Problems under Redhat EL3 and ext3
...icles, that wasn't a problem. But then our developers changed the image file names using a vehicle ID from the database. And as we rolled over 1,000,000 in vehicle ids we would get large numbers of files into directories. And files do not get well distributed. So we changed the method using [0-9a-f]/[0-9a-f]/[0-9a-f] and md5 on the file name, using then the first 3 letters/numbers to file it away. On initial testing this worked well, distribution nice across the directories, so we could split this on separate file systems or disks. When we actually got to do this, a decision was made to us...
