LVM mirror database to ramdisk
I'm still running CentOS 5 with Xen. We recently replaced a virtual host system board with an Intel S1400FP4, so the host went from a 4 core Xeon with 32G RAM to a 6 core Xeon with 48G RAM, max 96G. The drives are SSD. I was recently asked to move an InterBase server from Windows 7 to Windows Server. The database is 30G. I'm speculating that if I put the database on a 35G virtual disk and mirror it to a 35G RAM disk, the speed of database access might improve. I use local LVM f...

zfs diff performance
...ver the results I have seen so far have been disappointing. Testing on a reasonably sized filesystem (4TB), a diff that listed 41k changes took 77 minutes. I haven''t tried my old tool, but I would expect the same diff to take a couple of hours. The box is well specified, an x4270 with 96G of RAM and a FLASH accelerator card used for log and cache. Are there any ways to improve diff performance? -- Ian.

Roundcube <-> Dovecot timeouts under very moderate load on big Dovecot nodes
...the webmailer is running on. Now I am wondering how to further debug this and what could be the reason. Some requests towards Dovecot are certainly taking longer than 30 seconds, while the average request takes mostly less than 1. The Dovecot is running on two big hardware machines with 48 cores, 96G memory and SSD storage. The load on the Dovecot nodes while the test is running is minimal. Best regards, M. Problems building package under Windows (PR#9303)
Dear R people I want to contribute a new package (various noncentral hypergeometric distribution functions) using C++, but there are many errors when I try to build even a simple package. Here are the most important errors I have encountered so far: 1. Trying to build the DLL, it can't find some of the include files. I had to make the following change in Makefile and copy some .h files:

Failure to boot, Debian squeeze with 4.0.1 hypervisor, timer problems?
Hi, I have a system based on a Supermicro X8DTH-i motherboard and a Xeon E5506 CPU. It was previously running Debian lenny with xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 (3.2.1-2) / linux-image-2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 (2.6.26-29) without incident. I upgraded it to Debian squeeze, with xen-hypervisor-4.0-amd64 (4.0.1-4) / linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 (2.6.32-45) and now it does not complete a boot of the dom0
