recommended hardware for quad E1 system
Hi All, Could anyone tell me which is the recommended hardware to a system running voicemail and conference, attending four E1 trunks and, another, attending only one E1? Can I use a PIII 850Mhz? Thanks in advance. Robert Almeida -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Very slow select() command on large mailboxes
...viroment which has about 10k users and mailboxes size about ~1GB. So I made a few tests and it all worked quite fast, except that select command on large mailboxes. The first time I select a mailbox which has 10k messages it takes about 4s to process. I am deliberately trying this on a Celeron 850Mhz, 512 MB memory and some shitty hard-drive to maximize the times. So why is this so slow? Does it index the messages on select? It's even slower when I have some new messages in folder, more that I have more I wait. So I presume it must be something with indexing? Anyway, how could I optimiz...

Buffering Problems
...ms getting things working, however I'm having a major problem with buffering on the remote clients. Winamp almost constantly buffers when i'm listening on my 2.5Mbit DSL connection. With shoutcast it is not a problem (though I can't use stream-db with it). Here's the setup: Duron 850Mhz 320MB RAM Maxtor 7200RPM 20GB 100mbit FD to switched colo network, realizes speeds of about 30mbit up. stream-db and stream-php into icecast 1.3.11. Reencoded to 128kbit, source is all 192kbit MP3 FYI, my dsl at home is about 5 hops away with pings of approx 13ms, and like I said it is not a prob...

samba-2.2.2 and Linux 2.2.20 replacing Win2K?
Hi there, I was wondering if you could give me some pointers as to how to get rid of the spooge of microsoft from our office, and have samba-2.2.2 assuming file sharing duties (read this as the Boss isn't happy with all the win2K crashes on the NIC's) The machine is a Pent-III 850Mhz w/256MB, dual NIC's, and 2 HD's (IDE) with /dev/hda1 being where the OS is stored, and /dev/hdb1 is a 19GB drive where the files will reside (running kernel 2.2.20, on Caldera OpenLinux 3.1). Here is the current permissions on the shares in question: drwxrwsrwx 7 drivef dbsapps 1...

R-1.6.1 with gcc-3.3
...gs="-bundle -bundle_loader /usr/local/lib/R/bin/R.bin" For those of you with accounts on gifi, I will upgrade the gcc-3.3, which you get by putting /usr/local/bin at the beginning of your PATH. gifi (a 450Mhz Cube) now runs OS X 10.2.2 (build 6F14). It will soon get a CPU upgrade to dual 850Mhz. === Jan de Leeuw; Professor and Chair, UCLA Department of Statistics; Editor: Journal of Multivariate Analysis, Journal of Statistical Software US mail: 9432 Boelter Hall, Box 951554, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1554 phone (310)-825-9550; fax (310)-206-5658; email: deleeuw@stat.ucla.edu homepage: h...

Cell gateway for T-Mobile US??
Most gateways I have found are only sold overseas. Do these work in the US? My provider is T-Mobile (using their Blackberries). They support: GSM (I am pretty sure) GPRS EDGE We get unlimited Cell to Cell minutes and would like to leverage the possible savings. Does anyone know of a product that they have been happy with? SIP or Analog is fine although SIP (or IAX) is preferred for the

outbound IAX calls bog down DSL
Evening, I've got * asterisk up and running with nufone account for inbound and outbound calls from the world... everything works quite nicely except that I noticed last night that when I have a call active from * to nufone, web surfing on the network slows to a crawl... additionally, I have a VPN tunnel to another office (using CIPE) and while inter-office (i.e. - SIP to SIP) calls

Re: Mini-centOS -- static libraries, XFCE
...ut if I install all of them (plus base- > system), my notebook becomes very slow. I wish I could have a lighter > version of centOS for notebooks and old desktops. CentOS isn't the issue, but your application selection. In fact, I have a 4 year-old Toshiba Satellitte 2805-S402 with a P3-850MHz, 256MB of RAM that runs Fedora Core 3 just fine -- with _full_ GNOME. OpenOffice 1.x, Acrobat and RealPlayer have their own, statically-linked widget-sets. I'm sure that's massively bloating the memory footprint. Consider switching to OpenOffice 2.0 [betas] (natively GTK+ now I believe?)...

"cipher none" alternatives ?
We are trying to upgrade from SSH1 to OpenSSH/SSH2. I see that configuration support for "cipher NONE" was removed in OpenSSH. Is there an alternative for this ? We need to move big files (>100Mb) between machines on the Internet. In the past we had used NFS or ftp but want to block those services at one or both ends. Moving them with SSH 1 scp takes quite a bit of CPU effort for

Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for
