Oh sure! I posted that info already, I think, but this is the error:

samba getting stuck, highwatermark replication issue?
...errors
> Checked 4948 objects (4193 errors)
All 4948 errors are about unsorted attributeID, with the following
exception: There appear still some references to an old (many YEARS ago
removed) DC:

Hai MJ
Brainwave..
Goto this object, in this object is the reference which if failty.
CN=84bea0a7-82dd-4237-9296-030573700698,CN=Partitions,CN=Configuration,DC=samba,DC=merit,DC=unu,DC=edu
Same for :
CN=d9d76e21-8cae-457d-b212-6cb192612739,CN=Partitions,CN=Configuration,DC=samba,DC=merit,DC=unu,DC=edu
Now check which server this GUID are, you know the faulty GUID.
Remove them from these.

There is no DC1 mentioned anywhere there. And the two errors remain:

Not sure. But in another thread I reported some issues on replication,
highwatermark notifications, high COU load, etc.
My idea was do try several things to fix this. SO I created a
virtualised isolated environment, in which I can try out all kinds of
things:
- upgrading the DCs to 4.7 (as suggested by you)
or
