auto-ballooning crashing Dom0?
Hi, during some experiments with many guests I get crashing Dom0s because of too less memory. Actually the OOM killer goes ''round and kills random things, preferably qemu-dm''s ;-) The box in question has 128GB of memory, I start with dom0_mem=8192M (or 16384M, doesn''t matter). I also used "dom0_mem=8192M,min:1536M", but that didn''t make any difference. Xen is c/s 25688. Then I start some guests with 2GB each. This works fine until about 55 guests, then I get some denies from xl when starting guests (which would...

Syslinux Mem= greater than 4096M
...in a highly specialized manner. I can set mem= all the way up to 4096M, but at 4097 and greater, I get the error message of: Not enough memory to load specified image. We have a boot CD port of this same distribution using the legacy (grub 1) boot, and it accepts mem= to levels tested as high as 8192M. Now, obviously, I'm likely hitting a 32 bit syslinux limitation, but we love using syslinux on our USB distribution as it boots on every system that we test on, whereas grub has proven to be problematic. So, can anyone suggest a method for us to pass a mem= 4097M or greater? Any suggestions...

Bug#657014: Wheezy, Squeeze and Ubuntu server 11.10 has missing boot option to Xen
...ess hangs as soon as Xen passes control to the Dom0 kernel: "Gave up waiting for root device" etc and it gives me Busybox, but it is also frozen, so there's no other option that reboot. After several days of troubleshooting it turns out that adding dom0_mem option (e.g. dom0_mem=8192M) to the multiboot line of /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen FIXES THE PROBLEM ! maybe this has to be fixed in the package? (I havent tried this out on other hardware, only on the Dell R810 with 256GB RAM and four eight-core processors) kind regards, /Erik

Doubt on XEN memory management: please clarify
...up now. I have 8GB of RAM and I have seen that if I put dom0_mem=1024M option, the dom0 has 1GB of RAM for itself. What does this really mean? This is confusing me, because I don''t understand how to decide the amount of RAM to assign to the dom0. For example, what if I assign 256M? What if 8192M? For sure you can say to try, but it is not so clear to me what I am doing. As far as I understand, this would be the situation: dom0_mem=1024M implies that ''xl list'' shows that the dom0 has got 1024MB of RAM reserved for itself. Are the remaining 7GB available for the domUs and...

VGA/PCI Passthrough of Secondary Graphics Adapter
Aloha! Concisely, I''ve been trying for several days to get VGA/PCI passthrough working. Regarding VGA vs PCI passthrough, I''m not entirely certain of the difference? Does Xen perform a different set of operations when passing through a VGA card versus any PCIe card? I''ve read the wiki and it seems the answer is "yes;" however, when passing through a

extlinux - Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Hello there I built development version of syslinux from git 6.04-pre3-3-(sometag) and I am trying to boot a slackware-current system with it. I do not use a separated partition for `/boot`. It's just `/dev/sda1` here for `/` and `/boot` is just a folder. I simply use `mbr.bin` against a DOS partition table and the first partition having the bootable flag. With this layout, the only

pci pass-through, NIC card
Hi, I am trying to make the vt-d and pci pass-through work and I have some problems. I just try to give a NIC to an HVM guest. When I create the vm the hypervisor goes to an infinite loop, it displays in loop the message enclosed (console_on_xm_create). I use xen x86_64, debian etch dom0 with linux-2.6.18.8-xen 32. The hvm guest is a debian etch 64. Cheers, -- Jean Guyader
