Framebuffer support in dom0
Greetings! I have installed xen-4.0 with kernel 2.6.32 on a gentoo box. Everything works perfectly, except one tiny detail. I do not have X installed on the machine, so I configured the (old, non-xen) kernel to use a framebuffer, so that I don''t have to cope with the ugly 80x25 resolution, especially on a 19" display. Unfortunately, with the xen kernel, dom0 now uses the 80x25 mode and I can''t seem to get it to use the framebuffer like it did in the non-xen kernel. I''m usually logging on locally for maintenance from time to time, and 80x25 is *real...

Screen corruption and crash at boot with Xen 4.1.0 & linux 2.6.39 on some systems
...4.1.0 & linux 2.6.39 but get the same result. The motherboard is a Gigabit GA-MA69VM-S2. The lspci -vvv output is attached. What I did notice is the way the screen resolution changes during boot is different for the two main machines that I test on. On the machine that works, instead of the 80x25 console that I''m used to with xen 3.4.1, I get a much higher resolution output with two penguins at the top with 4.1.0. When I boot the system without the xen hypervisor linux starts at the 80x25 resolution but then quickly puts the screen into high resolution. On the machine that fails, w...

The maximum number of rows in a com32 menu
...which uses your menu, I found I can't reach more than 24 rows whereas my screen is 25. set_windows_size() relies on getnumrows() to define the maximum number of possible rows. But regarding to getnumrows() code, it sounds to report "// Actually numrows - 1". On my screen which is 80x25, getnumcols x getrowcols reports 80x24. The set_windows_size() is so refusing to set the screen up to 80x25. Is it a desired behavior or can we fix the menuing system by replacing getnumrows() calls by getnumrows()+1 ? Erwan,

I am having difficult using konsole with the same scripts that I have used on FC4, FC5, and FC6 with success. Syslinux CLI access
Hi, Working some more with the HDT command line interface, I noticed that the help (on a 25 line console) wraps around the screen. So the start of the help is missing. I was wondering if the help could not be better formatted for 80x25 in a future release (maybe listing options comma-seperated instead of newline seperated). -- -- dag wieers, dag at wieers.com, http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [Any errors in spelling, tact or fact are transmission errors]

Problem: vga TEXT mode has only 8 colors when booting with syslinux
...expert so please correct me if I'm saying anything wrong. I noticed a difference when using grub2 or syslinux in my linux virtual console (tty[1-5]) which uses VGA text mode (no graphical mode). To be sure that I'm using this mode, I did: $ dmesg | grep -i vga Console: colour VGA+ 80x25 In my understanding when using the VGA text mode, 16 colours are available. However, if I try to display those 16 colours after syslinux booting my system, I can see only 8 different colours. Here's my syslinux.cfg: DEFAULT linux PROMPT 0 UI menu.c32 MENU TITLE Linux LAB...

Getting IOAPIC errors in xl dmesg on old hardware
I am getting a series of IOAPIC errors in xl dmesg on a Dell OptiPlex GX100 machine (bought in 2000). I also get an error from traps.c which is very similar to the one in the ''Getting mm.c errors from xl dmesg on certain hardware'' thread. This happens during system startup with no DomUs running. I have attached the xl dmesg log. _______________________________________________

x25 line xterm
Noted that xterm by default uses 24 lines per window. I have reviewed /etc/termcap looking for a specific entry for xterm that I can edit to change the ln#24 to ln#25 for our application. When I used RedHat there was an editable option to change the number of displayable lines as is done in putty. Any suggestions? --Hal. -- Hal Davison Observe Goal, Set the course, Burn the map

...al terminal (but not written to harddisk): | [date and hostname] ata1: command 0x35 timeout, stat 0x50 hos_stat 0x24 (Additional files are available at <URL:http://mjh.name/files/tmp/xen-1/>) Second test was with unstable, which always locked up after the message "Console: colour VGA+ 80x25". (Compiling with GCC 3.3.4 instead of 3.4.3 makes no difference.) - Now I''m curious: Were there any changes made to Xen which might have caused things to change? Might the 2.6.9 -> 2.6.10 update have done the trick? Is my h/w update or the BIOS update likely to be the c...

STABLE/9 SMP ACPI suspend/resume - video mode not being restored
Hi, I'm toying with the SMP/i386 ACPI suspend/resume patches in -9. Thanks so much for this! I've noticed though that the video backlight stays off after resume. A common problem on -9, so I set hw.acpi.reset_video=1. That restores the backlight. However, the video mode isn't restored. I have my console set to VGA_80x60 and the resume seems to set it up "wrong". I get half
