2-way mirror or RAIDZ?
...ith 2 x 250Gb disks. I want to make best use of the available disk space and have some level of redundancy without impacting performance too much. What I am trying to figure out is: would it be better to have a simple mirror of an identical 200Gb slice from each disk or split each disk into 2 x 80Gb slices plus one extra 80Gb slice on one of the disks to make a 4 + 1 RAIDZ configuration? Acronis True Image or Clonezilla
I want to clone a small (80GB) disk on my CentOS server to a large (1.5TB) disk, as smart has been giving me warnings of unreadable sectors. Both disks are Western Digital, and WD has a WD version of Acronis True Image. I'm not sure whether to use this or Clonezilla. My worry with Acronis is that I want to keep the origin...

retrieve files without local dir compare
...at: We receive meteorological data from a remote server to a local directory (every 5 min). If the data is here, it is imported by a special software, after the import it will be deleted from that directory. The deleting can't be disabled. Normally I would say, ok download all again, but we get 80GB data per day. If rsync compares the local dir it will download all again, because it's empty. So rsync has to know what is already downloaded, and only get the new files WITHOUT the dir compare. Does anybody know a way how to realize that? Til today we are doing this with ftp, but it's ve...

swap_pager: indefinite wait
...data (www, DB and e-mail) on the FreeBSD 7.0. I compressed all the data on the original server (on tar.gz format). I transferred them on the new server and started to decompress the files. Www data have been decompressed correctly on the ISCSI disk. But while the messages were being decompressed (~80GB of tar.gz) and all the DB were being restored, the server crashed. The error shown was: swap_pager: indefinite wait buffer: bufobj: 0, blkno: 31, size: 4096 This message repeated every 30 seconds. While restarting with the single user mode I checked there wasn't any message after the crash in...

block align SSD for use as a l2arc cache
I have an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD. For optimum performance, I need to block align the SSD device, but I am not sure exactly how I should to it. If I run the format -> fdisk it allows me to partition based on a cylinder, but I don''t think that is sufficient enough. Can someone tell me how they block ali...

Rsync killed my server
I have the following as a line in a script kicked off from cron: sudo rsync -e ssh -avz /Times_QPS/ 192.168.22.72:/Times_QPS/ --eahfs It logs the output to a log file, however rsync caused the log file to go to an 80gb file and fill up my disk because it threw a mental when a file it went to sync was no longer there! Is there some way to get the sync to ignore errors? -Jason ********************************************************************************* This e-mail message, including any attachments, is in...

Can this config sustain 30 users?
...his server I need to put to work. The option I have is to make it work as a small office PBX with SIP users and a Digium E1 Card for PSTN service. 24 SIP users and one E1 card in an Intel 945board (533 Front side bus) with 1GB DDR 533mhz of ram, one Pentium Dual Core 2.66 ghz (FSB 533MHZ) and two 80GB SATA disks. Can the box sustain the load? I can add another 1gb of ram if necessary. Just PBX and voicemail, no fancy sutff like call recording... maybe a simple autoattendant like "thank you for calling, please press one for...." -- ---------------------------------------------------...
