area of the game using an old saved game.
Unfortunately, it is still not possible to play the game due to a
strange problem with the resolution. During startup, the splash screens
etc. are displayed in 640x480. Just before it switches to the game
menu, the screen appears to switch to 800x600 and then immediately back
to 640x480. I've also tested with a Wine desktop set to 800x600 with
the same result; after the splash screen the desktop jumps to 800x600
briefly and then back to 640x480,
I've tested using different X screen modes, using the VESA driver, and

system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor
I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed
fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and
since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it
as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor.
That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver
wasn't available for it, I

CentOS 8 VM 800x600
Hi all,
I am trying again to get video higher that 800x600 on CentOS 8 VM guest.
I re-installed the image, I installed spice-vdagent, I tried setting QXL
and VGA both - so far
everything is always 800x600.
What is the trick ? I am using virt-manager.

screen size stuck at 800x600
I testing gluster (the downloadable vmdk) under VMware Vsphere (ESX
4.0). The screen size is stuck at 800x600. I've tried increasing the
size in the guest settings for vmware but that doesn't help. Some of
the command buttons are off the screen and are inaccessible.

Screen resolution switch with DGA
This has me baffled. I run Diablo 2 under Wine, works absolutely
flawlessly in every way. I have DGA enabled, and a 800x600 desktop (also
tried the Managed and Unmanaged options). Thing is, my X desktop is
1600x1200x16bpp and of course Diablo 2 is only 800x600. Is there any way
to have this resolution automagically change to 800x600 (nothing seems
to do that here), and back when I exit it?
I know it's not a pro...

Wine not properly loading config file
....
I'm trying to change the resolution and drives in Wine, but for some strange
reason, every changes I make in the ~/.wine/config file are not reflecting
in wine.
I naturally verified if I had any wineserver running in the background.
Nothing. I'm trying to swtich the 640x480 resolution to 800x600. So I
modified the " "Desktop" = "640x480" " to this line " "Desktop" = "800x600"
". Nothing happens to the resolution when I load wine and notepad, i'm still
at 640x480.
Even weirder, if I take the config file and rename it to another...

QEMU virt-manager video device
I am trying to use the Video Virtio device and set it to Virtio (to get
resolutions higher that 800x600).
My host is CentOS 7 and my guest is CentOS 8.
When I set the virtio for video - I get an add about QEMU does not support
'virtio' video device.
Do I not have something loaded ? Real question is how to get video higher
than 800x600. I tried every selection there Cirrus , QXL, VGA, VMVGA a...

...et all kinds of lines in X log that says
FBDEV(0): mode "1440x900" not found.
FBDEV(0): mode "1024x768" not found.
Funny thing is I set up a different CentOS 7 and Windows 10 guest - and
they are scaling just fine and I get higher resolutions.
Its just my CentOS 8 guest that is 800x600.
Thoughts?

Can the WINE window be larger on high resolution settings?
I was reading this post http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=45535&sid=6957add8af3402a8afa68d8527121e2d
and others like it looking for a way to make the content in the WINE window look larger.
I mean to look like 800x600 resolution when the monitor settings is at 1024x768.
So, I have typed this on the command line:
Code:
wine explorer /desktop=spider,800x600 spider.exe or wine explorer /desktop=spider,640x480 spider.exe
but I see no change compare to the command line looking like this:
Code:
wine spider.exe

Strange behavior in X, esp. VMWare Windows
...(possibly a power failure), my work
desktop had a different video configuration than when I left Wednesday
evening. I have two 17" flat panels configured as a two-head wide
(side-by-side) single display. When I arrived on Thu, I had two
individual desktops instead, the resolution was down to 800x600, and
so on. The monitor type had been reset to generic 800x600, and the
vido card was unknown. (This was not true before.)
After a lot of fooling around with the xorg.conf file, I finally got
it back to where it should be, for the most part. My current
xorg.conf is included below.
The problem...

[Fwd: Problems with two S3 video devices.]
...ll the config files and log files
output.
The X's start fine, and gnome too. I have the 2 screens working fine, but
when I launch some programs, the xserver restart without any type of
screen message.
I don't know what is the problem, because VNC extension works fine,
screen0 runs fine at 800x600 and screen1 runs fine at 1024x768.
The 2 video devices uses the same driver s3virge. The first is a PCI (the
principal screen) and the second is an AGP device (the secondary screen).
Could anyone help me in diagnose and solve this problem?
Thanks!!

Dealing with 800x480 displays
Has anyone worked around the display size limit on units like the ASUS
eee? They list a 800x480 display resolution, and I have encountered
Gnome dialogs that require at least 800x600 to see the <OK> button on
the bottom of the panel.
