700GB gone?
I have a 1.5TB disk that has several partitions. One of them is 900GB. Now I can only see 300GB. Where is the rest? Is there a command I can do to reach the rest of the data? Will scrub help? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Syncing large amounts of data
I need some suggestions. Here's my setup: 800GB of Data 14,000,000+ Files No changes just additions Files range in size from 30k - 190k The files are laid out in a tree fashion like: BASE \-Directory ( Numerical Directory name from 0 - 1023 ) \-Directory ( Numerical Directory name from 0 - 1023 ) \- Files ( Up to 10...

io_uring cause data corruption
...and FastCopy(1) from the Samba share to a local disk. * Verify the sha-256 sum on the files. From what I can see there is data corruption on many of the files. Sha-256 does not match. I copied the same files many times and the data corruption occurs within minutes. The total data set is about 800GB. When I disable io_uring, no data corruptions occur. I verified this with multiple TBs of data transferred and no corruptions were detected. Samba log files contain no errors, nor does dmesg. The Windows client detect no error when copying the files. I'd really like to debug this problem a...

High Availability strategies
Hi, we have a medium setup (8000 pop and imap users using almost every available client, 800GB of stored mails using maildir on a Celerra NFS server, with index files on local disks, and procmail for local delivery), being served by a Dell PowerEdge 2850 (2GB RAM and dual P4 Xeon 3,2GHz). Our current not-so-high availability setup is based on a similar server with the same setup and a e...

Balance taking a lot longer than before
...devs, I''ve been using btrfs on my file server since 2.6.32 and after upgrading to .33 I noticed that rebalancing took way longer than before. I have a 5 disk array used for a btrfs md setup, different hard drive sizes, brands, and interfaces. The last time I rebalanced I was using about 800GB of space on the 4.6TB array, and I started before I went to sleep and it was done when I woke up. I''m in the middle of a rebalance right now, currently using 950GB, and it has been a full day and the rebalancing is not done yet. Is this an expected change? Is there any way to tell how mu...

Performance Tuning Recommendations for Dovecot

I am considering putting the indexes on memory disks but I haven't scoped out the requirements for the central system yet (i.e. it is unclear to me how large the index will be for approximately 13 million messages take take up roughly 800GB of disk space. rsync --daemon. Can I open more than one instances?
...I was wondering if opening more than one instance is recommended or feasible? I know that for services like nfs for example I have had opening many instances improve performance. I have 4 cores available so if there are any other parallization modes I'd be glad to know since I need to backup ~800GB data every day. -- Rahul

I saw a patch on the kernel mailing list about possible corruptions in during re-scheduling. I wonder if this is the problem I am hitting. I'll m...

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a

2.4.20: ext3/raid5 - allocating block in system zone/multiple 1 requests for sector]
(It was suggested I send a copy of this to ext3-users, so here it is - note that I need this RAID going so I've rebuilt with reiser, but would still appreciate suggestions; the message was original sent to the lkml) Hi, I've just built an 800GB RAID5 array and built an ext3 file system on it; on trying to copy data off the 200GB RAID it is replacing I'm starting to see errors of the form: kernel: EXT3-fs error (device md(9,2)): ext3_new_block: Allocating block in system zone - block = 140509185 and kernel: EXT3-fs error (device md(...

Question about --stats
...ested in this because I rsync data to a raid set for off-site storage, but I'm running out of space. I have some data that I want to be sure is on the raid set, and other data that I care less about and could delete some of to make sure the important data is transferred. I do this weekly to a 800Gb raid set, so wiping all the low-priority data, transferring the high-priority data and then rsyncing as much of low-priority data as will fit is not an option -- it would take too long. which server to make client and which the server for rsync.
I am using rsync to keep a mirror of my 800GB /home (server1). The backup machine is a separate server (servr2). Currently I am running rsync daemon on server2 and invoking rsync daily via cron on server2. Are there design / performance considerations that influence which machine is made the server and which the client? Also, Is the rsync da...

I?d really like to know the name of each file that is being transferred. However, this job covers apparently >80K files comprising 800GB worth of data, so I suspect it?s skipping the explicit filename line that I see in smaller jobs. This job runs daily, and there are usually fewer than 1000 files actually transferred in any one run. The command I use is: /usr/bin/rsync -rpti --progress --stats --timeout=20 --exclude='.*'...

Mounting of Gluster volumes in Kubernetes
Hi all, Wondered if there are others in the community using GlusterFS on Google Compute Engine and Kubernetes via Google Container Engine together. We're running glusterfs 3.7.6 on Ubuntu Xenial across 3 GCE nodes. We have a single replicated volume of ~800GB that our pods running in Kubernetes are mounting. We've observed a pattern of soft lockups on our Kubernetes nodes that mount our Gluster volume. These nodes seem to be those that have the highest rate of reads/writes to the Gluster volume. An example looks like: [495498.074071] Kernel panic...
