X45xx storage vs 7xxx Unified storage
...h reliability, good performance (up to at least 350 MBytes /second over 10 GigE connection) and large capacity. For the X45xx (aka thumper) capacity and performanance seem to be there (we have 3 now) However, for system upgrades , maintenance and failures, we have an availability problem. For the 7xxx in a cluster configuration, we seem to be able to solve the availability issue, and perhaps get performance benefits the SSD. however, the costs constrain the capacity we could afford. If anyone has experience with both systems, or with the 7xxx system in a cluster configuration, we would be inte...

Offtopic: 3ware Raid Controllers
Hi! I know this is a little bit offtopic, but i couldn't think of any other place where i can get uninfluenced first hand information on these controllers :) I've read about and experienced data loss/system lockup with older 3ware controllers, but the 3ware Escalade 7xxx (i'm especially interested in the 7850) sounds too good to ignore it (8 channels, 8 drives, raid 0/1/5/10, drive-side ide bus, system-side scsi bus). Does anybody use Escalade 7xxx in production systems? How does it perform? If it's not any good, do you know any other IDE Raid controllers...

Using * in extension name
I am trying to setup an extension of *7XXX that will allow me to dial *7 and then any extension and use the Pickup application to pickup a ringing phone. Ideally it will also check if the phone is ringing somehow and then either dial the extension or pick it up if it is ringing. But I can't get that far. If I use *7268 specia...

state of ide raid
...are notes for FreeBSD 4.8 and 5.1. So I'm wondering if anyone can provide some insight here. -3Ware has a whole new series of cards. The twe(4) manpage states that only 5xxx and 6xxx series cards are supported, but these are very hard to come by. Is the manpage out of date, or are the newer 7xxx and 8xxx series cards now supported as well? -Adaptec has a cheap raid card, the 1200A. No mention of it in the hardware notes. Is it possibly supported by the asr driver? -AMI has an "i4" card (series 511) which is not listed on the hardware list. Might the amr driver support it? A...

Re: dragging windows leaves traces -- running older GeForce drivers on newer cards
...t; SBA: Enabled > I get more than 9000FPS running glxgears so the card is doing well. Hmmm, interesting to see both Fast Writes and Side Band Addressing working. Traditionally nVidia has been very conservative. Maybe we'll see a larger performance boost yet! Is this the new 1.0-7xxx series driver? If so, which revision? > I mean by showing the window contents while dragging. As another poster said, if it's the brand new 1.0-7xxx series driver, there were reported performance issues with moving windows. Have you updated to 1.0-7664 (past buggy 1.0-7174)? [ 7664? Wow...

HP laptops with CentOS 7?
...wrote: > What would you consider be a tested and proven working, newish chipset? its really the CPU now that matters, rather than the 'chipset', as most all the base IO devices are in the CPU (ethernet, sata, video). I think Kaby Lake support is still a sketchy, thats Core gen 7. (i-7xxx). I'm not sure what the state of Skylake is (gen 6) Broadwell should be very solid at this point (5th gen), that was new in early 2015. -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

HTB: is root a class really necessary?
...ave been using a HTB setup for almost a year now, and i have created it w/o a root class. i ll try to draw it here: 1:0---1:3---1:30-local small traffic ---1:31-local rest of traffic ---1:5---1:5xxx- classes for the trafic that comes from the metro part of the ISP that i use ---1:7---1:7xxx- classes for the trafic that does not enter the previous 2 classes(the internet traffic) ---1:4- default class all these classes: 1:3, 1:5, 1:7, 1:4 have as their parent the root qdisc. the motive behind this setup is that i don t want any borrowing between these classes as for the filter...

Follow Me CID
.... All seems quite easy and am very pleased with the way Asterisk is running and handling calls. To summarize briefly, our setup looks like this: LAN -> Asterisk PBX (Elastix) -> Asterisk TDM (basic CLI with libSS7) We get a whole 3 digit number series from our telco. So, like, +1 312 765 7xxx (just an example), where we get to choose XXX on our own. To simplify things, we have forwarded the full incoming extension to "Asterisk PBX", and have assigned full numbered SIP IDs to our users. And so far, our users can send / receive calls without any problem! The problem starts wh...

new cisco ip video phone?
Hi, Just finished watching the season finale of '24' the TV series. Throughout the series they have been showcasing Cisco hardware especially Cisco IP phones (7970's). On the last episode or two they showed what seemed to me a new cisco IP video phone. It stands just as a 12" lcd screen with the cisco branding/logo and letters just as the 79xx series. I wonder if this is a

...c connection setup between a nortel C10k and an asterisk box. All I want to be able to do is forward sip calls from the nortel switch to the asterisk box, and make calls from asterisk to the nortel.... ie: if someone dials my # on the PSTN, send it to asterisk and let me manage it, and if I dial 7xxx-xxxx drop the 7 and send it to the nortel switch I've done this before making 2 asterisk boxes talk together, etc. so I'm fairly certain I have my extensions.conf setup right, but I can't seem to talk to/from the nortel box. Any one have any hints? <relevent parts of sip.conf>...

Some 3Ware questions
I have not used RAID controller boards to date since I have relied on the built in RAID on the motherboards. Thanks to the informative message Byron, I realize the deficiencies of doing RAID 1 this way, especially now that the builtin is out of date with Kernel used by Centos. I have 4 ATA drives that were configured in two pairs. I assume that I need a 3Wave controller that has 4 ports

RAID card recommendation
Hey all, After seeing the horrible lack of support for Promise cards in Redhat Enterprise/CentOS, I am looking for a recommendation for a good IDE RAID controller that is supported out of the box (i.e. I would prefer not to have to install via a driver disk). I would prefer ATA 133 over Serial ATA for now. Thanks! Sean

SuperServer 6024H-82R and Centos 3.3
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any familiarity with this server? It uses the Super X6DH8-G2 motherboard. Currently, we've added an Adaptec 2120S Ultra320 RAID PCI Controller Card to get RAID 5 capability. The installation bombs and from what I can tell it looks like we're getting SCSI resets or the controller is going offline maybe. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
