Well, actually, as we now have had the parser accept 1i or 7i, 3.14i etc I think that it's not the *warning* that is wrong, but rather the *result* : Why should as.complex("1i") be different from one of these? > 1i [1] 0+1i > str2lang("1i") [1] 0+1i > scan(textConnection("1i"), complex()) Read 1 item [1] 0+1i...

comparing segments of a time series
Hi, I have a time series of 38 wintertime average snow depths measured at a particular meteorological station. The data appear to undergo a "climate shift" in the early 1980s: before the shift the mean and sd are 152 +/- 58, after the shift 92 +/- 36. The distribution is not normal; there's a hard limit at zero of course and there are outlier years with very high snowfall. I

UFS on zvol: volblocksize and maxcontig
Hi all! First off, if this has been discussed, please point me in that direction. I have searched high and low and really can''t find much info on the subject. We have a large-ish (200gb) UFS file system on a Sun Enterprise 250 that is being shared with samba (lots of files, mostly random IO). OS is Solaris 10u3. Disk set is 7x36gb 10k scsi, 4 internal 3 external. For several

multiple instances of NSD
I'm trying to set up a machine which will be running multiple instances of NSD to serve different sets of zones from different interfaces. What I'm running into is that I can't specify different PID files to refer to on the command line. Are there any shortcuts or do I need to go write a patch? Any other implications of multiple instances? --

Write caches on X4540
We''re using some X4540s, with OpenSolaris 2008.11. According to my testing, to optimize our systems for our specific workload, I''ve determined that we get the best performance with the write cache disabled on every disk, and with zfs:zfs_nocacheflush=1 set in /etc/system. The only issue is setting the write cache permanently, or at least quickly. Right now, as it is,

c(NA, 0+1i) not the same as c(as.complex(NA), 0+1i)?
So, to summarize, the open questions are: (1) Should as.complex(NA_character_) give complex(r=NA_real_, i=0) instead of NA_complex_? (2) Should the first argument in c(NA, x) and c(NA_integer_, x), where typeof(x) == "complex", be promoted to complex(r=NA_real_, i=0) instead of NA_complex_? My opinions: (1) No. The imaginary part of the
