GRUB and vga=788
Hi,
On a minimal (e. g. without X) server install, one of the first things I
do is add 'vga=788' to the 'kernel' line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, so I
can use the framebuffer in 800x600 mode and have a better readability in
console mode.
However, I tried this on my minimal CentOS 5 install, and right after
GRUB, the screen just blanks. I add that this (test) machine ran maybe a

I must have root-permission, since this Deb7 crap doesn't know 'sudo'.
The final goal will be using "video=vesa:ywrap, mtrr vga=788"

the important app to use proper <font sizes>.

isolinux.cfg parsing issue
...'ve been trying to setup a dual livecd. However I am getting an
error with parsing the isolinux.cfg. I am using 3.84.
the relevant section of the isolinux.cfg is as follows
label LiveCD1
kernel vmlinuz1
append livecd=livecd1 initrd=initrd1.gz root=/dev/rd/3 acpi=on
splash=silent vga=788 keyb=us fstab=rw,noauto
label LiveCD2
kernel vmlinuz2
append livecd=livecd2 initrd=initrd2.gz root=/dev/rd/3 acpi=on
splash=silent vga=788 keyb=us fstab=rw,noauto
When written this way, both selections end up opening the same
squashfs image (livecd1).
If I write it the other way around:

reshape with two time variables
I have a data frame in wide format that I'd like to convert to long format.
For example, in wide format I have:
id A1B1 A1B2 A2B1 A2B2
1 1 400 475 420 510
2 2 390 500 470 472
3 3 428 512 555 610
4 4 703 787 801 822
5 5 611 634 721 705
6 6 543 522 612 788
7 7 411 488 506 623
8 8 654 644 711 795
A is one repeated-measures variable with levels 1 and 2. B is a second
repeated-measures variable also with levels 1 and 2. I'd like to end up
with:
id A B value
1 1 1 1 400
2 2 1 1 390
3 3 1 1 428
4 4 1 1 703

BLUP with missing data
...t consider as
0(zero). So I need to generate the matrix X'Z, Z'X and Z'Z step by step; I
can?t use
crossprod(x) #neither
X'X <- t(x)%*%x
because I should skip the elements with missing data in the matrix
I?ll try to be more clear,
supposing
a matrix x and a z
dim (t(x)) = 2275 788
dim (z) = 788 1
but I have in my matrix the effect 0(zero) which is not missing, therefore I
can?t just replace the missing values by 0(zero) and i can?t just remove it
from the matrix because it would unbalance it
A way to do it could be generate Z'X step by step e.g
Z'X [1, 1] is equal...
