Ideas for distributed Samba servers
I'm trying to think about how to setup a Samba system and would like to pick
the brains of some experts. We are looking up put a large amount of storage
~75TB in a central data center. We have some remote (ok, not remote, but
across slower links, ok if you consider several hundred clients over 1Gb to
be slow) locations that we would like to set up samba servers that 'cache'
the file system and serve it up to the clients in the building and sync w...

Boot fails with lvm snapshot
Hi,
I have a strange problem with my centos7 file server. I have a large
data storage (75TB in RAID6, managed by lvm) and each night I create a
snapshot? (removing first the previous one). The snapshot is mounted
read-only so if a user remove a file accidentally he can restore it in
the same day. However, if this snapshot exists, reboot of the server

Random Timeouts?
...ing from. Basically, this server
is rsyncing from 6 other servers that each have a read-only rsync daemon
running on them. I'm running about 80 rsyncs (to break up the file
sets), about 6 in parallel (and they rotate through the 80). I'm
transferring about 160 million files, in about 75TB.
The backup server has 48GB RAM, and during the rsyncs about 30GB get
used at any given time, but not more than that. The server has 16 3GHz
cores and doesn't even break a sweat.
All my rsyncs are called via simple bash scripts in the format:
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/rsync -a --delete rsync:/...

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend?
I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap.
As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would
