a repetition of simulation
Hello,
I have a simple (?) simulation problem.
I'm doing a simulation with logistic model and I want to reapet it 600
times.
The simulation looks like this:
z <- 0
x <- 0
y <- 0
aps <- 0
tiss <- 0
for (i in 1:500){
z[i] <- rbinom(1, 1, .6)
x[i] <- rbinom(1, 1, .95)
y[i] <- z[i]*x[i]
if (y[i]==1) aps[i] <- rnorm(1,mean=13.4, sd=7.09) else aps[i] <-

HELP! Excel and R give me totally different regression results using the exact same data
Hallo,
I am totally confused why Excel and R give me totally different regression
results for the data below. If you know the solution, please enlighten me.
In Excel I used LINEST() and Data>Data Analysis>Regression and both
(fortunately) gave the same result.
The coefficients were:
/b0=1.16, b1=0.957, b2=0.024, R2=0.0027, adjusted R2=-0.017/
In R I used

sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet
Is anyone using sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet adapters under CentOS 4.x?
The version of the driver that ships with CentOS 4.x kernels was too
old to support the onboard NICs on some Intel server boards that we
recently got, so we installed a newer driver using DKMS. However,
we're having problems finding a stable driver to use: the first
version that we tried (7.09) gave a kernel panic when I ran

[LLVMdev] Adding SQLite3 to llvm test-suite
Hi,
SQLite3 has a very simple build system, and it comes with an extensive
testsuite (over 40000 tests).
It hasn't shown any bugs in LLVM, but it is fairly simple to build [even
turn off features via -D], and can be CPU intensive.
I have integrated SQLite3 into llvm-test's build system, it is too large
to send as attachment (784K), you can get it from here:

WEIBULL FRAILTY MODEL HELP
Dear R users,
I try to write an rcode for a paranetric weibull model with unobserved heterogeneity.
The data I have are giuven below.
( The data comes from Keiding and Klein artricle published in
the Statistics in Medicine 1996) .
While the simple weibull model runs perfectly ( I get -2*loglikelihood 1093,905), the
weibull frailty model does not run well.

[LLVMdev] Adding SQLite3 to llvm test-suite
Hi Edwin,
It works fine for me. Thanks!
We prefer a flat directory structure. Is it possible for you to
separate it out to sqlite3 and lemon rather than having them as sub-
directories under SQLite? Also, can you increase lemon's test size?
Please file bug about the performance issue. Thanks!

ggplot questions
Hello,
A few questions about the following examples:
1. Why do the two plotting versions not produce the same result?
2. Is the 'scale_x_continuous' (or *_y_* or *_*_discrete) geom the best
way to setup grids (as in visual guide-lines) in polar (or for that
matter, any) coordinate system?
3. Why do these commands appear to generate 3 plot pages each?
4. Perhaps more questions to follow

Calculate Closest 5 Cases?
I've only begun investigating R as a substitute for SPSS.
I have a need to identify for each CASE the closest (or most similar) 5
other CASES (not including itself as it is automatically the closest). I
have a fairly large matrix (50000 cases by 50 vars). In SPSS, I can use Correlate > Distances to generate a matrix of similarity, but only on a small sample. The entire matrix can not

Heroic LLVM optimizations
I'll be interested in seeing the improvements. As a reference, this is
what I get in an Intel 6700K when
I compare gcc 5.4 (Ofast flto) vs published Intel results. 23x in
libquantum, and over 40% in many benchmarks.
I think that it is mostly from AoS vs SoA and loop transformations.

help for segmented package
Hi,
I am trying to find m breakpoints of a linear regression model. I
used the segmented package. It works fine for small number of
predicators and breakpoints.(3 r.v. 3 points). However, my model has
14 variables it even would not work even for just one breakpoints!.
The error message is always estimated breakpoints are out of range.
Since my problem is time related problem. So I

[RFC, PATCH 0/24] VMI i386 Linux virtualization interface proposal
In OLS 2005, we described the work that we have been doing in VMware
with respect a common interface for paravirtualization of Linux. We
shared the general vision in Rik's virtualization BoF.
This note is an update on our further work on the Virtual Machine
Interface, VMI. The patches provided have been tested on 2.6.16-rc6.
We are currently recollecting performance information for the new
